WebOS App Catalog publish fee

Hi all!
It' very obvious that the App Catalog needs to catch up with it's rivals. I strongly expect that the futuree update of the system carries a new wave of C++ apps; meanwhile Palm (Hp?) has eliminated for good the publish fee of 50 Usd... Awesome! They are even refunding the current developers through Paypal... That's a very interesting way to support developers!

We may flood with crapware in the App Catalog but we need more apps for sure... Hopefuly we will see work oriented apps instead of just entertainment.

I'm really excited of the times coming... Not to mention the possibility of a WebOS tablet...

Finance in order - Palm Pre

Clearcheckbook.com has made their mobile app available for WebOS a few days ago and I have to say... IT IS AWESOME!
A while ago I had a Treo and used SplashMoney but is not available for WebOS and if it where, I can't purchase apps from Mexico.
I tried other solutions but something was missing, I downloaded the new app and find out that they have a very powerful and robust website as a main product and the mobile app not just to check on the road but to manage my finance.

I spent a few minutes and now a have full visibility of my money, it's very easy to use and you can even pull reports! Now that I have so start saving seriously (I need a house) I find that this app could help me a lot to fulfill my objective.

I strongly recommend to check ClearCheckBook.com and give it a try, they have a premium service which by the way I'm considering it.

The app is available for WebOS, Android and Iphone OS.

WebOS App Catalog

Hi PalmAddicts, long time since my last post (been very very busy); a lot had happened since the last time... like the acquisition of Palm by HP, the new Iphone and so on, but I would like to focus on my favorite mobile OS: WebOS!

Palm enter the current generation of smartphones late, we all know that... however they had the chance to really produce an outstanding software based on what made PalmOS great: simplicity.

WebOS is not perfect, sometimes is a bit slow but you have FULL multitasking, a very open system, a notification system out of the grid and so many cool features. Palm also based the system around web... we all know is the future; everyone is turning their products to the cloud (MS Office for example) and WebOS is already there!. A funny fact, a colleague said to me yesterday: Why I can't sync my calendar to google as you do automatically...? He has a BlackBerry Bold btw, he is able to do it but now for free.

I love my Pre and I'm sure that HP will give the boost that WebOS needs hopefully a new powerful device... but we need also a better catalog. Sure we have now over 2000 apps but I can't wait to see the new PDK that allows hybrid apps half web, half C++.

Anyway, my last and most important statement: Palm (HP) why I can't purchase any apps from Mexico? I mean... Did you notice it? there are some cool apps and games that I would like to buy but I just can't. Maybe in the future the app catalog will be masive but I can buy what I want!

People from around the world needs a full working catalog not just for US, Canada and Europe! (we need updates too)

Please remember your neighbors... if you sell the phone officially (which you do) please provide full support.

Palmaddicts, I'm back and will post regulary... stay tunned.

Using my Palm Pre

Palm-pre1 Hi Palmaddicts!

I currently own a one month Palm Pre GSM, I'm very happy with it. It's the first time I have a data plan and it's awesome (but not cheap).

My Pre replace a Tre 680 and there is no point of comparission, however is miss the variety of apps and developers for the old Palm OS, I hope this will change soon.

My Pre wakes me up everyday and now I have push email... So no more hot syncing. Now I'm available all the time so I'm in twitter more often. At work the Pre is so useful... My calendar is synced, Evernote has been so useful btw.

Not all has been great... I miss MS Office editing and an app like Splash Data but I hope that they will be available soon.

The platform looks promising but it needs developers. (we want skype).

Just as a funny fact, I call my Pre: Pero just to remember the background and as a tribute to my former smartphone.

see you soon guys!

Finally... I got my Pre!

Hi Palm Addicts! A few months ago it was uncertain if I will cntinue my life as a true Palm Addict, for that I mean a Palm device user... Guess what? I bought a Pre in december and couldn't be happier. The device is better than I expected, it's fast, the GUI and interface is awesomel the devive is wide open for customization (thanks Preware) and seems that the App Catalog will become a serious contendent soon. What does it need to be perfect? Skype, editable Docs to Go, Msn Messenger... haz you can see just minor but meanful improvements. P.S.: Flash is coming!

Palm Pre coming to Mexico... OH YEAH!

Palm Pre Hi Palm Addicts, after months of whishing, hopping and waiting for the Palm Pre in Mexico a tiny ray of light have appearead.

The announcement is not "official" yet, however the highly respected blogger Javier Matuk (which by the way is co host of the podcast: Dommo about electronic entertainment and gadgets, in spanish; a must have) posted a video in youtube (it has been deleted) using the mexican Palm Pre... why call it mexican? well according to Javier Matuk, the mexican Pre has a expansion card slot!

The Pre will arrive aparently by the end of October with America Movil a.k.a. Telcel, which is the larger carrier around here.

If you by any chance remember on of my previous posts, I was decided to get a BlackBerry.. however if the Pre is available I'm sure that I won't get a BlackBerry.

I know that WebOS still is a very young platform but I believe that any true Palm Addict has beneath him the curiosity of having a Pre.

I'll continue to be a Palm Addict, let's hope that the app customer continues to grow and also the always welcome homebrew (advvantage Linux)-

As soon I have my Pre I'll let you know all about it!

See you soon PalmAddicts!

It's time to evolve

Hi PalmAddicts,

Since 2003 I've been a constant Palm Os User, I started with a Tungsten E, then evolved to a powerful LifeDrive (loved it) and I'm currently using a Treo 680 which still awesome but sadly it became short for my needs.

I've searching for the past months about my possible smartphone:

  • I can't explain how much I don't like the Iphone... I just can'y help it!
  • Palm Pre is not available in GSM or Mexico, so it's not an option
  • Nokia n71... Symbiam Os seems to be outdated (just as Palm OS)
  • Windows Mobile it's too laggy (but I prefer it from an iphone)

You should have guessed by know that I thinking about a BlackBerry.. the idea of pushmail and  being connected always seems awesome!

I've been checking it for a while and it seems jus perfect, it's a solid phone (8900), elegant but not too fancy and more important it's been made for work, productivity and not a circus freak..  (yeah Iphone I'm looking at you).

Unless Palm sells Pres at Mexico soon (at a reasonable price) I'm going to ge a Blackberry Bold or 8900... they has it all except the touchscreen but I can get use to.

I don't need fancy games or emulator, just need a smartphone that just works without trying to get me blind or dizzy; for me the best it's being simple and effective and I think the BlackBerry delivers perfectly.

See you soon PalmAddicts

Palm's new Mojo SDK

Palm finally has releases the beta version of Mojo SDK, the Palm Pre web based enviroment for development.

I've been reading a lot about it and found mixed reactions: Some think that is very easy to develp and fits perfectly for the device, but some are complaining about the lack of access to the powerful hardware.

I think that this enviroment has as everything advantages and disadvantages, for example the fact that is web based helps a lot to the posible number of developers since almost everybody has a clue on has to create web content.. (even I can try to develop something) but on the other hand the SDK doesn't included access to the "real" power of the device since the webserver embeded doesn't use 3d aceleration. Iphone 3GS developers can use now OpenGL so they expect something similar in the Pre... but does the Pre really need it?

I don't think so... the Palm Pre is mainly for work... I think the Iphone is aimed as any other Apple device.. to show off! It's great looking good but I don't need crapware in my phone... I've seen a lot of useless (and overpriced) apps for the Iphone. I still believe that the Iphone is not a smartphone... is an Ipod with phone capabilites...  So no,,, I don't need a endless wave of useless games.. I don't have time to play and for videogaming I have a Xbox 360 :)

For the productivity the web apps are so far enough for work and the connectivity is awesome.

And you now what it's the coolest thing? Palm is kind of pro hacking so there is no awful restrictions like in the Iphone... it's very hacker friendly (emulators now are being circulating).

So far Mojo seem as a first good step.. we have to remember that still in beta, I'll try to develop simple things just for curiosity... the examples are great. Who knows, maybe the future version of mojo will allow better and deeper integration with the hardware.

Palm, again... We need the Pre in Mexico...

See you soon!

Using my Treo at work and for other stuff

PhotobucketI know that I mentioned before that currently my Treo 680 is not perfect for my work... however It doesn't mean that I don't use it at all.

Now more than ever I have a tight schedule, meetings, tasks, dead lines, notes and ebooks. I was a pretty powerful user at University but by schedule was flexible, now if I miss a deadlineor schedule I might get in trouble.

I can't sync my Treo to my Outlook but that doesn't keep me to track my movements and make sure I attend everything and everyone.

When I have a little time I take advantage of it, I start reading cool books like Halo Novels or Harry Potter's adventures, also I have a very valuable references of excel.. I use it every day and it has save me constantly.

Even without internet it helps me  a lo t to improve my performance everyday.. Thanks Treo!

Thinking about my future smartphone...

I have more that a year and a half with a Treo 680  as smartphone.... yeah it's still useful but also is looking not only old but beneath my needs.

I'm planning to get a data plan on December but if I'm spending big bucks I need a phone for it right? The 680 without internet access at the office is not as useful as before. I can't sync to my exchange server so there is no synced datebook, contacts, emails and so on... not even docs!

This could easily can change with the proper phone like he Palm Pre, Iphone 3GS, Blackberry or Nokia smartphone (any with wifi).

I've been researching and without considering that I'm a PALM addict... Palm Pre seems the right phone for me, the thing is that is not available in Mexico yet (no info yet), but it's perfect. The Iphone 3GS will arrive soon but something in me resist in buying an over priced fashion icon, is not for me (I need a keyboard), I don't need games and I already have an Ipod Nano, The Blackberry is very expensive too...  but the integration with my office network is awesome (it's a strong candidate) and the Nokia smartphone are also ver appealing.

What is clear to me is that I don't want an Iphone. LOL

After thinking for a bit I still think that the Pre is the one for me but I have no idea when it's coming so currently the Blackberry is coming really strong since I need email anywhere, web browsing, skype, twitter and of course PalmAddicts website :P

The Blackberry delivers so as the Pre... I need a Smartphone to work... What would you choose?

I think the Pre is perfect for me... will it come on time to Mexico?

See you soon PalmAddicts
