Motorola Xoom presented in Mexico

The war of tablets is on, Ipad is dominating the market but the challenge has started. Basically it is rainning new Android tablets every single dayand the Touchpad coming soon (hopefuly).

Ipad 2 has been available in Mexico since the end of March… a couple of weeks after US release taking advantage of it of course… but one of the “serious” competitors has arrived: Motorola Xoom

Price remain unknown but I expect to be competitive against Ipad (which can be found in MX for about 650-750 USD. Only Wifi version will be available since CDMA network is not domminant in Mexico.

Opportunities? Well, is the price is right can do something and also the speed of Android updates is impresive, I say this beacause Apple fanboys already have an Ipad so, the market is everyone else (huge market).

I’m expecting Touchpad for me but definitly will take a look at Xoom… who knows!

Heavyweight arriving to App Catalog

We heard a few days ago that a top developer, which happens to be in top charts in iOS and Android Market was on the way to out App Catalog… Everyone speculated about this for many days, but finally has arrived: White Pages

This apps is a huge addition to WebOS, unfortunately this is only useful at the US, but has a lot of info available and it is a good sign for the things that maybe are on the way.

This app enables the opportunity to search people, business, phones at locate them in the map (with Google Maps aid) and again very good addition,  I just hope that more developers like this are in the way and with usuability outside US; you can download it but won’t be very useful outside US.

Expecting the new HP phones

Man, the wait has been too long, last february HP showed us Pre3 and Veer with the promise of summer and late spring… Well, Veer is arriving to AT&T this weekend but only in the US.

Like I said. the wait has been to long, I love me classic Pre but dying battery is almost gone, keys falling apart but somehow still delivers almost everything I need.

The actual appereance of Veer finally gives me some hope since in Europe starts showing for preorder and I hope that Telcel in Mexico will offer any of this phones.

The question is: how the market will receive Veer? The market is tough right now… Android phones keep coming out (powerful and looking good) but the system still away from my needs but man is growing and growing. I don’t think that HP will vanish his competitors since they are too strong but have to start somehow.

I’m a loyal users and trying as hard as I can to stay like that let’s hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel… Palm legacy deserve better!

Using my Pre

I’m a happy owner of a Pre (minus) running on Telcel network in Mexico even though I can’t buy apps and had to install WebOS 2.1 on my own… thanks to the awesome script from WebOS Internals of course….

My battery is dying hanging less than ever but still manage to run my day… I use it to stay updated in facebook, handles my emails my calendar (life saver), play Angry Birds sometimes… Twitter? Of course… I always catch the WebOS related sites and guess what? Talk all the time with the family.

While driving has saved several times from getting lost with Google Maps… I love it.

I miss doc editing but being honest is not very comfortable editing on any phone (tab is other story) so viewing is more than ok right now… I even read a few books on it!

I’m aiming to get a Pre3 for sure… no doubt!

Waiting for the HP Touchpad

Since february I have been unable to think apart from the Touchpad… seems like an evolution for sure but the timing has been the issue but after the release of WebOS 3 (beta) SDK yesterday my hopes are up again since now we are specting a set  of native apps for launch!

Developers can (for free) start creating awesome apps for the Touchpad (Pre3 & Veer will get the update) that will be ready at launch. I think that HP after a few let downs finally hit the ball setting the enviroment for the future.

Let’s recap: Quickoffice will be include (missing PowerPoint editing, maybe available for purchase),  Amazon app seems to be confirmend… Videoconferencing too (let’s hope Skype is on board). With this features I’m in… those were my needs last year traveling around the world Sonrisa but unfortunately got no other option that I like… The multitasking of WebOS cannot be matched by anyone just the system needs to be speedy.

I don’t need games… I have an Xbox for that, I need productivity…. checking my mail, updating content on the go… tweeter, facebook, blogging and I think that the touchpad can deliver for me… The beats audio is an awesome add, probably need to buy the headphones too but premium audio is a huge value for me.

I won’t be ditching my laptop since I will need it for some things like gaming (love retrogames) but my main tasks I think I know what I want… and yes I have used and Ipad and even when is gorgeous, light and tons of apps… the multitasking sucks!

HP please, deliver on time & worldwide!

Reading with my Pre

Hell Palm Addicts, I got stuck for another day in Europe because of the weather and even though I have wifi I do not want to stay all day infront of my laptop, suddendly I remembered that I loaded in my Pre a very interesting book “The Lost Symbol” by Dan Brown.

The very useful app Preader is amazing, it reads plain text, html and… Epub! Awesome… during my trip in Denmark almost every day in my work breaks I pulled off my Pre to read a few chapters of “The Lost Symbol” which is great so far I might add.

As I told, the app is very useful, easy to use,  user friendly and gets updated constantly… a must have for WebOS. (so as the book)

Today is my last day in Copenhagen and I’ll be reading a lot with my Palm Pre.

Palm Pre in Copenhagen 2

Even though I’m in a business trip, I’ve been around a bit knowing Copenhagen… a really nice please except but the weather but it is part of the charm I guess.

I brought a “proper camera” but shoot pictures like crazy! So before I notice… I don’t have enough space or enough batery but suddendly I remembered that my Pre was in my pocket and that means having plenty of space compared to my camera and the shoot are quite good for a phone…

It’s really nice to have something extra in case you find something to remember like last sunday… I was walking in Ostergade (longest shopping street in the world) and I saw a lot of street performers very talented… but my camera was full; so I took my Pre and started recording… now I have a cool video on Youtube about it thanks to my Pre.

My Palm Pre in Copenhagen!

During this year, sadly for work reasons I have been traveling… and this November I ended up in Copenhagen Denmark freezing myself but that’s another story.

To my trip I brought obviously my laptop (great companion) but even though I can’t use the phone without expending a fortune I decided to bring my beloved Palm Pre!

How I’ve been using my Pre? Well too many things for one post but it wakes me up every morning to go to work flawlessly; it had helped me a lot with the languages since I manage speaking english but don’t know a word of Danish however is quite easy get wifi in Copenhagen so I have a translator in my pocket… nice!

Most of the day I’m in the office but I still can check twitter with my Pre, get the news and use messenger, a really nice adition!

So far even without the phone/data service my Pre is very handy with Wifi… I have been abroad for almost 2 weeks and it really is useful.

Best regards!

HP - Palm adquisition

Unless you live under a rock you already know that Palm has became a division of HP, long stories have been written and told about this situation. Palm now has at his reach deep pockets and HP now has a true player to enter the mobile market again...

We can't deny that Palm was in a accord position. The Pre is a very good phone, I love it but against it's new rivals a new powerful hardware is required. Palm spent most of his money developing Pixie, Pre Plus and more importantly WebOS. I still believe that WebOS is far more advanced that it's rivals, just to quote a few advantages:

It has true multitasking
There is no need of Jail-breaking, the system is open
The developer system is incredible (low quotes and easy to develop)

What do we need? A new an improved hardware, with a fancy 1 ghz CPU, a powerful GPU and awesome design with better materials (metal, glass whatever but not cheap plastics). We also need larger battery and a really push for WebOS apps (but it seems that already it's on the way).

Hopefully, HP has confirmed that new smartphones are on the way and tablets... Oh Yeah! I have a lot of faith on the future slate. WebOS has lots of potential and can't wait for wait it's coming: an awesome OS and the global capabilities of HP. I think is a win win.

On vacations with my Palm Pre

PreHi Palmaddicts, I decided to take a few days of Mexico City to enjoy clear skies, pure air and just to release stress... so far the trip has been great even when the weather is a bit cloudy in San Luis Potosí but I'm still enjoying it!

When I was getting my stuff ready, I was sure to bring my netbook... eventually I packed but so far I only turned it on to sync my Ipod and to write this entry and it's my fourth day away. My Pre has solved all my digital needs during this break.

My Pre has shown that is no t only a great phone, also is a more than decent camera... I took a few photos in Aguascalientes (part of the trip) and the resul was awesome. We intended to carry our top notch Nikon camera (HD Video and 12 mega pixels) but we forgot it and we didn't miss it.

Recently I have been using twitter constantly and my Pre is the weapon of choice, during the trip I have updated with comments and sharing photos of were I've been or eaten... btw I found the best Hot Dogs EVER! (tru story)

The "basic" features of the Pre do their job perfectly, I stayed in touch with my family, political family and even with work teammates; you know that constantly someone needs your point of view and my team sent me a few files through email for validation. No laptop needed!

I've done a lot of stuff this weekend but let's keep the rest for the another entry...

So friends, now you know it... ditch your heavy equipment and carry a Pre (with the charger) and you'll be fine.

See you soon...
