It's not just iPhone who got released up to a newer version 2.0, Spb Software House has also updated its famous backup tool for Windows Mobile: Spb Backup.
Just on last June 10th, 2008 the Spb Backup was silently revamped into a better user interface and with some important additional features. It is by the way, surprisingly still supports the old and aging Windows Mobile 2003. So it's a really exciting news for you, who are stubborn enough not to get a newer handsets.
Here are the release history for the new v2.0:
- ROM Upgrade Mode — now it's possible to restore data after the ROM upgrade
- Device Upgrade Mode — now it's possible to restore data on another device
Smartphone support — the new backup support for Windows Mobile Standard platform (non-touch screen devices)- Interface changes:
- The look of the main page has been changed
- The restoring can now be performed from the main screen
- Backup History — the application shows all created backups and the list of them to restore
- Ignore Rules — one can add files (for example "\Program.log") or file masks ("*.log" or "Program_log??.txt") that should not be included into the backup archive
- SMS only restore — a new option to restore only text messages (SMS) from the backup file
- Now one can choose the compression level, either Normal or High.
- Backup file verification — the archive file is verified after storing now
- The storing speed has been increased twice comparing to the 1.x version 
Desktop Spb Backup Unpack tool. A utility that substitutes for previous Spb Unpack Tool. Now it shows the content of the backup file, and can extract files and registry entries separately. (click on the thumbnail pic to view it larger)- Desktop Spb Backup Sync tool. A small utility supposed to live in your tray and copy backup files when the device is connected
As always, you can enjoy more screenshots at its picture gallery page before you decide to spent on $9.95 for an upgrade program from older versions you've already got. But just in case you wish to make a clean fresh start purchase, it'll costs you $24.95 for one license.
Most notable new features are the two mentioned first at the release history above:
ROM upgrade, this means you can upgrade your handset's ROM and able to restore your backup on the new ROM. Which is usually a hindrance, everytime you forgot to backup first before doing the ROM upgrade.- Device upgrade, this new feature is the most awesome. Because you'll be able to install your backups (the Spb Backup v2.0 files) into your new handsets, I think this can be done since Spb Backup 2.0 is using the same OS platforms: Windows Mobile. Didn't I tell you before, this is a good news for you who own WinMob 2003 mobile phones? Told ya!
