Now it's been 5 years since I brought my first Palm PDA. Then later shifted to the Treo. To my surprise I am still re-discovering new ways to utilize this marvelous PDA , now PDA/ phone combination.
After so many experiments now I know how to make the initially very unstable Treo 650, stable. As stable as any other ordinary phone plus as versatile as almost a full pledged computer. So I can make the best use of the both worlds. Treo's full qwerty keyboard is awesome. Typing these articles with it is a snap whenever you have an idea. In fact it's faster than I type on the PC thanks to the predictive text system (using TextPlus). A little brick form factor, first my friends did laughed at, but with all the nifty features had made Treo is the best overall user experience.
Day by day new software titles emerge just to enhance Treo's already powerful feature set. No wonder it has become Palm's the flagship product upto date with record 50 % of sale.
When new Treos coming out new. With the exuberant exotic number of software titles from basic memopad to barcode reader utilities available for Palm OS, for such a compact device, I still re- discover things to enhance even my old Treo 650.
Treo Launcher
The first thing I liked in Palm devices was the simple Palm OS UI. Palm has abandoned it for years. It hasn't been updated much when software titles galore on your device. So with a couple of bells and whistles to simple Palm OS launcher itself, Treo Launcher by Horace is what I have been missing on my Treo. With a type of a letter on the wonderful Treo keyboard, you can drill down your apps list to the ones you need. Still better now you can have background image like on those other Palms.
SplashPhoto
There is no point having 320X320pix 65K nice screen if you don't have some eye candy. So for colorful pictures and slide shows with music SplashPhoto makes the best reliable ACDSee kind of image viewer for Treo.
TPMPC Player
This makes the most stunning video viewer for Palm OS playing all the latest MPG, AVI and Divx/ Xvid and 3GP files on the move.
Hotsync and Resco Backups
There no use if you keep all your important things in the Treo, if you can't get back where you were when a crash or something happens. So Rescobackup automatically keeps all your sensitive data copied to the SD card while Hotsync keeps a copy on the PC to get your feet back on the ground.
Threaded SMS
This is the one single feature I would say if someone asks why my Treo is better than any other ordinary phone. I still have all the SMS I got/ send for last two years stacked right under my finger tip, nicely organized by the name of the person involved in the chat, sent and received SMSs as exactly as in their order. Just like in your email client on you desktop. WM5 Treo has followed it and I'm sure one day will all SMS applications will be like this.
mOcean
This is the hub for my mp3 tastes. God old iPod in software flavor on my Treo.
So with new Treos out now, I am so happy this fun would continue.
