I upgraded to Kinoma 4 EX yesterday and at first I wondered why? I have TCPMP ver.71 which is free and works great for movies?
However, upon playing with the application last night I discovered that it supports plenty of licensed formats that I wanted to play on my TX. WMV and FLV (Flash Video) formats for example ( 2 newly supported formats) played smoothly. Any encoded video with PocketDVD Wizard in IPOD mp4 format however still played fairly choppy when compared to my IPOD not sure why yet. I tried mp4 encoded home movies on the TCPMP and Kinoma back to back and TCPMP still played more smoothly, something I am still trying to play with.
New to the application is that its now supports most popular streaming media formats which is great for TX users with WiFi access and for Treo owners.
The New version includes support for ACC audio , 3GP, Flash Video, JPEG, MPEG4, MP3, QuickTime movie, QuickTime VR, Windows Media Audio and video, Internet media streams such as http, real time streaming protocol and multimedia streaming protocol. Several play list formats are now supported too. check out the feature list.
Audio formats support album covers now and basic information, however I would like to
see the subtitle/description fields that Podcasts and other encoded music have in their tags for a more thorough description (like the IPOD displays).
In a nutshell it is a fairly worthy upgrade for the upgrade price I paid. New users may be dismayed by the $24.99 price though, that is unless they want to try out the new streaming capabilities and licensed formats. I can now play formats I have not been able to play before and it makes my palm TX a much more versatile and useful device.
