GMail Mini is great!
I did have some trouble getting it to work at first. I got some Java error (sorry I didn’t write it down). But on the 3rd or 4th try it came up. I logged into my GMail account.
I Love It!
What do I love the most? The very clear keyboard shortcuts to do things like archive a message or mark it as spam (something you can’t do with via http://m.gmail.com).
Here’s a quick summary:
0 - Go to Inbox
1 - Search
2 - Compose
3 - Mark as Unread
7 - Delete
8 - Report Spam
9 - Archive
* - Add star
There are options under “Settings” to ”Preload Unread Messages” which is the default. This means that it will read your GMail faster (but uses more data, which isn’t an issue for me as I have an unlimited data plan through Sprint).
After using it fairly quickly, I am very impressed. It is a great improvement over the interface at http://m.gmail.com.
While I will keep using Chatter for my personal mail, I have all my mailing lists in GMail now.
Note that you need the IBM Java VM which is free but not small. It does give you a framework to use other cool programs such as Opera Mini and now GMail.
The Gmail Java program is 230K.
Note that GMail also makes images, Word documents, and PDF files available, but I have not tested this capability myself!
