A while back I mentioned a CompUSA item called a USB Bridge that worked with and recognized the LifeDrive and T5 as a thumbdrive. The Bridge allows you to copy files between two USB thumbdrives or flashdrives. At the time I could not get it to recognize my Treo 650.
Recently I purchased the Treo 700p and also switched to Card Reader software as Card Export was playing havoc with my 700p. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this combination was indeed recognized by the USB Bridge as a thumbdrive and I was able to transfer files easily between another thumbdrive and the 4 gb card on my handheld.
Why would I want to do this? I use a MobileMate USB Card Reader from SanDisk that allows me to plug in any external SD card (plus other types). Should I be on a trip and the SD card in my digital camera become full, they can be easily copied to my 4 gb card on the Treo. Have you ever encountered someone who had an Office file on their flashdrive, but no computer was around to view the file. You can now transfer it to your SD card on your Treo and view it in Documents To Go. I had this very situation at a recent educational technology Leadership Summit and had the USB Bridge in my briefcase. My ability to deal with the situation impressed many in the immediate area.
Simply plug a USB cable into the Treo and place it in the "target" side. Plug your flashdrive into the source side and press a button. You have two options of how files can be sent.
The USB Bridge is now available from CompUSA online or in stores: Mfg Part #: 070713 and SKU: 334220 with a cost of $14.98.
Enjoy!
