When the treo 180 came out, I really wanted one...when the 600 came out, I was chomping at the bit waiting for the first UK deliveries...when the 650 was announced I had to go through that agonising wait before it came to the UK...now the 700P has been released and to be frank, I just don't feel at the moment that I want one...there's no "I must have it at all costs" desire, not yet anyway. The specs look...distinctly okay, no wifi? Ev-do? Useful for the UK and Europe...not...obviously it's bound to have 3G when it arrives here but I don't think that's as fast as ev-do but I could well be wrong. A 1.3 megapixed camera? Oh please, that's soooooooo 2004. 128mb of ram is not bad but not so good when less than half is available to users. They've improved the sound and phone features? Well, that's the very least I would have expected if Palm expect to be a serious player in the phone market. In these respects the 650 was rather lacking. Those are the downsides....it's good points are easy...it's a treo and that means it's designed well and the palm o/s is second to none for ease of use. If anyone doubts that try using a windows mobile device and saying the same thing after a couple of weeks.
But but but but but.....for me there's no woooaaahhhh factor anymore with the treo. and you still have to fork out a minor fortune on programmes to get it working and acting just the way you want it and frankly, the way it should be OUT of the box. I blame Palm you see, they made the T/X so good any other pda device, for me, just seems rather insignificant and second rate in comparison. Now, if they bring out a new treo sans keyboard and a bigger screen like the T/X...that would be a different kettle of fish entirely but for now I'll just have to get used, for the first time ever, of not having treo envy...ah well, roll on the next new product announcement.
