[From Dr.Lawrence Gitterman, Thousand Islands, Canada] I just read Gerard's posting about an international version of the Lifedrive update being available on the European web-sites. I took a look at it and on first blush it looks like the real thing. There is no cautionary note about it being only for English-only models as is the case on the North American web-sites.
So just to be sure, I phoned Palm tech support in Manila. Their typically uninformed and unconcerned agents didn't disappoint. They knew nothing about the download on the European web-sites. After I managed to convince them to take a look, they were able to confirm that despite the lack of cautionary note, the European version is no different than the American version and, therefore, must not be downloaded to any device which is not English-only. Unfortunately, Palm cannot tell you if your device is English only or multilingual, based on either their inadequate Serial number resources or packaging labels.
If your device gives you a choice of languages at any stage of set-up or in the reset process, I believe it is a multilingual version for which there is no up-date yet available. The agent to whom I spoke when I first discovered this told me that you could actually damage the device if you attempt to install the wrong version.
