From Jay this morning. At first the news of the Palm Treo running Windows Mobile seemed unreal, and downright weird. Surely it was a prank; whyever would Palm offer a product running its biggest competitor's operating system?
After I thought about it, I realized that it does make sense as a business decision. There are people who are shopping for a smartphone running Windows Mobile, and for whatever reason (or maybe lack thereof :) aren't considering PalmOS. The Windows Mobile Treo allows Palm to have a product to sell in that market. It probably doesn't take much to get Windows running on Palm's hardware, so why not?
Personally, I still feel far more attracted to PalmOS, and I'm sure virtually all of PalmAddict's other daily website visitors do too. If Palm sells some Windows Mobile products on the side for some easy extra profits, fine with me. It will help Palm support the development of their future hardware products, and
PalmOS as well.
Now for the big question: Is Palm also developing a Windows Mobile version of the LifeDrive and/or Tungsten 5? And if so, what will we call it, a "Palm PocketPC"? Or a "PocketPC Palm"?
Remember you can have your say on Treo's running Windows over on a forum thread dedicated to the subject. Have your say.
