It’s that time again! I’m excited about today’s Palm Addict Profile, but before I begin, I’d like to again thank Jennifer for her fun answers to my questions in the last profile! I enjoyed learning more about her, and her enthusiasm showed through in her responses as it does in her delightful Palm Addict posts! One of my goals in life is to someday meet Jennifer for lunch. Then we’ll go PDA “window” shopping! (But we better leave our credit cards at home! ;-)
When I think of the subject of my new Profile, the first word that comes to my mind is “Precious!” If you’ve read Palm Addict for long, you’ll instantly know that I’m speaking of Arny! For those who are new, I’m not referring to Arny, himself, with this term of endearment, though I’m sure his wife and mother probably do! ;-) “Precious” is the name that Arny lovingly calls his beloved Tungsten 3. He has entertained the Palm Addict community with wonderful tales of his “Precious” for as long as I’ve been frequenting the site. I have shared in his PDA related joys and his sorrows. I’ve reveled in Arny’s purchase of beautiful accessories, simply to adorn and enhance his beloved device—he even purchased a companion camera that was diminutive and almost as beautiful as Precious herself. And who could forget the time Precious was lost…finally to be found again, though tragically wounded? Then I anxiously followed the serialized saga of his quest to get “Precious” repaired by PalmOne, relating to his despondent loneliness during the long separation, and rejoicing for their glad reunion.
Some time ago, Arny and I found out that we have several things in common, aside from a shared PDA passion. I have enjoyed corresponding with him ever since, and have also had the fortunate bonus of becoming friends with his cute wife Andrea, who often sends me delightful emails and adorable cat pictures. Now without further introduction, I am pleased to be able to present Arny Moore as the subject of today’s Palm Addict Profile.
1. Name? Arny Moore
2. Occupation? ITScapegoat (if it isn't working - it's my fault)
3. Where do you live? Land of the Frozen Chosen - Toronto, Ontario, Canada
4. How did you get involved with Palm Addict? It started in a seedy bar. I saw this web site that looked kinda cute... Actually, I had several Clie's and was a frequent visitor at Shaun's Clie site and he frequently cross-posted Palm Addict articles. Became a regular.
5. What do you like best about the Palm Addict community? I think the openness and the sharing. Good honest people sharing whatever they find, expressing their dreams and frustatrations about their pocket companions.
6. How many PDA's do you own? How many do I use? One regularly - my Precious! (a T3). How many do I own? Let's see: a Newton Orignal Message Pad, a Newton MP120, a MP2001, Franklin Rex, an original IBM Palm 128k, a Palm III, a Palm Vx, and my current Precious = 8. (Didn't think I had that many. Actually it's fun. I sell off my next to current Precious to buy the latest and the greatest, and then buy it back off of eBay a couple years later for a fraction of the price!)
7. Favorite PDA? After my current Precious (T3)? My MP2001.
8. What makes it your favorite? Just some magic about seeing a memo go up in smoke after you scratched it off the screen. Always fantasized about using my Franklin Rex as a smaller companion to my MP2001.
9. What about PocketPC devices? Difficult call. Both are strong platforms. I like to stay with Palm because I know it. And the huge investment I have in peripherals.
10. What other hobbies/passions do you have? How much time do you have? I have a very strong commitment to assisting in my Church. I am classically trained on the violin as well as have taught myself piano, organ, accordian, guitar, harmonica, flute, clarinet, saxophone and Jaw's harp. Have been playing with two other toys I got recently - a scanner to scan all my negatives and slides into jpeg's. And a recording MP3 player to convert all my cassettes and LP's into MP3's. (At least they can't claim that I downloaded them). Wife says she misses me.
11. What is your favorite color? Blue. I think it's because I have a twin brother. Mom always dressed him in brown coloured clothes and me in blue. To this day, I won't wear brown. (Editor's note: This answer struck me, because I am the mother of twin boys, and as little guys I always picked blue items--toothbrushes, underwear, toys, etc.--for my blue eyed boy, and green items for his green eyed twin. It was an easy way to determine what belonged to whom. Luckily, neither of my boys has a problem wearing brown! ;-)
12. Favorite food? Oh - do I have to choose? Tex-Mex, Italian, Chinese...
13. What is your favorite fruit? How about strawberries?
14. What is your favorite candy? That's not fair! I have to choose again? Snickers chocolate bar.
15. Favorite dessert? Caramel Crunch cake with Pralines & Cream ice cream.
16. Favorite season? Late spring - before it gets too hot in the summer.
17. Are you a "morning" or an "evening" person? I can't sleep in - morning.
18. Do you have any pets? Two cats - Junior & Silver - both have made appearances on PA.
19. If you could be an animal, what kind would you be? A dog - can't beat their enthusiasm - just as long as I had a caring owner - like Jan - or my wife.
20. Favorite places to go? Tie a hammock between two trees and I'm there.
21. Favorite movies? An Officer and a Gentleman - I know - not a classic, but I liked the theme of sticking by your friends and the way you could see Richard Gere's character actually grow.
22. Favorite book? Lord of the Rings. Read it the first time under the covers by flashlight when I was 12. Read it 6 times since. Call me - we can talk about Jackson's visualization.
23. Favorite band? How about favourite kind of music? I love music that I haven't heard before. I like to experience it for the first time, and be surprised by the composer / artists choices. (Was enthralled when I heard McCarthney's Silly Love Songs for the first time - can't stand it now.)
24. Favorite song? Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini by Rachmaninoff
25. What makes you smile? A good joke, being with friends, watching kittens play.
26. What's the one word or short phrase that would best describe you? Life of the party.
27. If you could pick any 3 people (real ones) to have dinner with…alive or dead…who would they be, and why? J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, - they had a wonderful relationship and I love they way they think; Jesus Christ - just to see if I really understand him.

I had so much fun reading Arny’s answers! He is one of the reasons I was instantly drawn to Palm Addict. His wonderful writing, combined with his brilliant sense of humor are a treat, and I always look forward to his posts. I appreciate Arny as a member of our unique community, and I especially value him and his lovely wife, Andrea as wonderful friends.
As always, I will soon return with another riveting interview. Watch your email! Maybe I'll be dropping you a line to be the subject of the next Palm Addict Profile!
