From Hassan. Hi Sammy, I had figured out a way to automate backups using freeware only, and thought I should share. Maybe it'll help someone else. Ofcourse it requires as external card of some sort.. We'll need two softwares:
Crony: http://freewarepalm.com/clock/crony.shtml
VfsBackup: http://www.planepla.net/vfsbackup.html
Step 1- Simply run VfsBackup once so it copies itself to the sdcard and creates directories
Step 2- Launch crony. If you're using OS5, and you cant access it from prefs, follow the following tip posted at freewarepalm:
Quote: Erik Hedberg - I'am able to use it under OS5. I installed Crony, and when I didn't, found it as an icon in >launcher I used FileZ to check it out. I saw that it was not set to launchable, so I changed >it to launchable and started it from launcher.
Step 3- In crony, create a new alarm (first button).
1) Give it a name, like 'bkup'.
2) Checkmark 'sound' if you want a sound to play when the backup is being made.
3) Checkmark wakeup.
4) Checkmark 'Start app', then click on the tools button beside it. In the new dialog box, select 'App' --> vfsBackup, Click- -> Button, ID --> 9994. Then click ok
(so crony will start the app, then click on the button with id 9994 (the backup button).
Step 4- Set the time. In the min tab, select the time of the hour you want the backup to run. Similary, under Hour, select the Hour(s) you want the backup to run.. and so on and so forth for Day, Wday, Month.
My sample settings for time are:
Min - 0
Hour - 2 (2 am at night)
Day - All
Wday - All
Mon- All
(So, it creates a backup at 2 am, on all days of the week) Click ok to save your settings. On crony's main page, you'll see On/Off at the top. Make sure on is selected. Thats about it.. :-)
