Good morning, Sammy and the rest of our Merry Band of Characters (that means YOU, too!).
I am really enjoying the new site, and being in IT myself, have a pretty good idea of how much work went into getting it there (to be specific: A LOT). I don't know why you go to so much trouble for so many strangers (emphasis on the strange), but I, for one, deeply appreciate it.
Obviously, I am a PalmNut from Hell...however, as I have stated in previous posts (ad nauseum), I am also the proud(?) owner of an iPAQ 3650. Being useless as a PDA, it was a highly expensive and decorative paperweight until the day I discovered CoPilot Live. This is an extremely robust GPS application for PPC and Windows laptops, that rivals the best built-in systems I have seen. I've been using it for 3 years now, and can gladly endorse them as a great way to turn your PPC into something fun (and, useful!). CoPilot PocketPC5, consists of the following:
-PPC software (includes incredibly complete/up-to-date maps of continental USA and Eastern Canada)
-Rich desktop client
-GPS receiver (sled or card, depending on your device), with memory card slot
-Magnetized, external antenna to really pull in the signal
You do all your configuring and map creation on the desktop client. ActiveSync does the rest. The PPC client gives you a configurable UI with full-screen map, POI's, test-to-speech conversion, the ability to get a detour route on-the-fly, and more then I can really describe. The only caveat is that unless you are running a 400mhz ARM processor, with a minimum of 25mb of free RAM, you have to strip every other application and dB off of your PPC device, and dedicate it to CoPilot. This is a memory-intensive program...but hey!, it's not like PPC does those other things well enough that you'd miss them anyway.
I travel all over the USA on business, and take this with my in my bag, for use in rental cars. I also used it on a trip this Summer from NJ to Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City...just brilliant! If you have been wondering how to get something from your PPC investment, I seriously recommend CoPilot Live. If you have the need for this on your laptop, then seriously consider that version. It is that good.
Take care, and all of you have the best week ever!
