Boxee to debut iPad app at CES

Macrumors reports that Boxee, the media player will be unveiling a new iPad app at this year's CES show.

"Boxee, the start-up company that develops media center software for multiple platforms, provided a sneak peek at its upcoming iPad app at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show this week. The iPad app will allow users to view videos on the go and send content to a Boxee device. Also, it allows users to stream a video directly from their Mac or PC in a variety of formats including those that aren't natively supported on the iPad. It accomplishes this through Boxee media server software running on the computer that automatically transcodes video to the iPad."

In my opinion, This could be interesting and bring a little competition to the AppleTV/iPad combo. But The folks in Cupertino clearly have a nice head start. Stay tuned.

Quickoffice for iPad

A friend at work recently suggested I look at Quickoffice for my iPad. They knew I like to write and edit docs on the road. I love the interface which feels very "Mac like" This includes drag and drop file management. And the ease of accessing files from the cloud is amazing. That includes Google Docs, Dropbox, Mobile Me. If you're looking for a mobile word processing, spreadsheet, powerpoint app, do yourself a favor and check this one out.

The Write Combination

Ever since I got my hands on my iPad, I felt like something was missing. Their were times that I wished I could use a stylus and handwriting recognition like I used to on my old Apple Newton Messagepad 2l00. Finally with the combination of my Boxwave Stylus and WritePad App I have a simple way to write with my iPad. The stylus glides on the iPad screen and the small lanyard plugs into the headphone jack so it is always handy. WritePad picks up where Newton left off with reliable recognition that is surprisingly accurate. While it might not be for everyone, I love it for writing short notes, drafting email or even writing this post.

Pano - Take panoramic photos on your iPhone

Some friends were showing off Pano a cool app for taking panoramic images on your iPhone. It lets you shoot an image, then rotate the phone and line it up with the previous one. Check it out at http://debaclesoftware.com/ and check out the Flickr photo group at http://www.flickr.com/groups/iphonepanoramas/

Converting a new Centro user

After transitioning to an iPhone, I thought my days of loving Palm devices were behind me. As it turns out, when my wife decided she was ready for a new phone, I steered her toward a new Centro. She prefers simple phones. After being done with my Treo 700p, she claimed it as her 'game phone'. Guess it was that familiarity with the OS that brought her around on it. I've enjoyed getting it set up for her and playing around with her Centro. It is a wonderful device.

DataViz Documents to Go Survey for iPhone

I signed up earlier for the list of people interested in info on development of DataViz's Documents to Go on for the iPhone. Today I received an email inviting me to participate in a survey. Hopefully they will develop this app unlocking the iPhone's document authoring capabilities like my old Treo 700p. Oh, yeah, Cut & Paste would be helpful too. :-) "Thank you for signing up on the Documents To Go for iPhone notification list! We want you to know that we’re knee-deep in development of our award-winning document editor and that you will be the first to know when we have some news to share. We would also like to learn a little more about you and what you think we need to do to make sure Documents To Go for your iPhone lives up to the high standards Apple has set with this game-changing device. If you can spare 3 minutes, please help us help you by filling out this short, 13-question survey. This will help us to make sure we put all of our time and effort into creating an app that’s perfect for your needs."

Going from Treo to iPhone

Hey Sammy, hope you're enjoying your recent travels. Thanks for uploading the pictures on the site. It's been a little while since my last post. The reason for my delay has been my migration to the iPhone 3G from my Treo 700p. I resisted the initial urge to get the first gen iPhone. I loved my Treo and told myself I wouldn't switch. BUT, i was given the iPhone as a very generous gift. So i took the plunge and switched. I must say it's a brilliant device. If only it had the battery life of my Treo. My biggest worry was the keyboard as I love to jot notes on my Treo. It's taken a little getting used to but i'm getting there. I also think the facebook app for Treo was better. As for my Treo, my wife has laid claim to it as her "game phone." I still occasionally play some bejeweled on it when I miss my Palm.

iPhone 3G Inside Out

The folks over at ifixit.com have posted a complete iPhone 3G disassembly. It's not for the faint of heart for iPhone fanboys out there. They do a great job documenting some internal differences in the new iPhone build including batteries not soldered on and a display that might prove easier to repair. Hit the link above for all the gruesome photos. - Jimmy Flores, Associate Writer, Dallas, TX

My Treo Helps Me Survive Jury Duty

Greetings fellow PalmAddicts and hello Sammy. (Hope you're enjoying Spain) Back in the states here, I found myself called up to serve my civic responsibility and report to jury duty. For those outside the U.S. or who have never been before it isn't as glamourous as it seems in the movie on TV. It's mostly a lot of waiting around. That's where my Treo 700p came in. Today I used it to keep up with my personal and work email, finish off an ebook, write a few letters I had been putting off, use Mundu IM to chat with some friends during break, check out what's new on Digg, and use TCPMP to watch several episodes of quarterlife I downloaded. All this and I still didn't end up being selected. I saw plenty of Blackberries and a couple of iPhones which I'm sure were being used just a heavily. All-in-all i would have NEVER survived the experience without my Treo.
