Wow, Nokia is passing over Symbian to Accenture. "After placing all bets on Windows Phone, Stephen Elop announced that Nokia would slowly phase out its OG operating system, Symbian. Today, it's officially passed the torch, handing over all Symbian-related duties to Accenture, a consulting and outsourcing firm. 2,300 former Nokia employees will also be repurposed, getting a new name on their paycheck as they tend to the ill-fated OS. [From Eric Mann] Interesting read this afternoon, iPhone 5 review. It may not be accurate but the think it will be close. "What's the point of waiting for the same few people to write the same single glowing review of Apple's new phone? There is none. So we didn't. We had our intern make a mock-up of the new phone using specs from the leaked cases; we found other devices that made use of some of the iPhone's components; and we carried the foam core iDevice for a couple weeks, loaded up our actual phones with iOS5 and iCloud and got down to business. This is the first review of the iPhone 5. Sure, it's a little, uhm, hacked-together, but I'll bet you it's not going to differ significantly from the officially sanctioned reviews that come out next week." Read in full.

Tracy and Matt get hands on with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. "It seems we have been waiting for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 for ages. With a market that is now saturated with Tablets can the Galaxy 10.1 get a slice of the Apple pie? I am not a huge Android fan but my first impressions of the Tab are really positive. It feels great, is lightweight and Android Honeycomb seems much better than when I reviewed the Motorola XOOM some time back." Read in full.

[From Hans] Interesting editorial at Forbes on how Apple needs the iPhone 5 to fend off Android. "According to a recent survey by Nielsen, 43% of all U.S. smartphone owners have a Google Android phone while 28% of them own an Apple iPhone. [1] This gap is certainly large enough for Apple to start worrying about. The most interesting aspect is that this gap has increased over the last 3 months with 56% of smartphone users picking Android phone over just 28% for Apple." Read in full

[From Stephen Trew] Let's hope Nokia can release quality products pretty soon. "The first Nokia Windows Phones will be the Nokia Sabre and Nokia Searay. That's according to a slip of the keyboard from Microsoft, which accidentally revealed the names of the Sabre and Searay -- or Sea Ray? -- as well as phones to be named the Samsung Yukon and Samsung Wembley."
