If you're running on a 2+ year old Android phone like I am, here's a great way to breathe some extra life into it. My Droid Eris was a little sluggish and buggy right after Verizon did its first software push to it 2 years ago. A phone isn't a good phone if it takes 2 minutes to hang up on a phone call and make a new call. Through the forums on a few Android websites, I was introduced to the XDA Developers
website. With the abundance of knowledge I've gained from that site, I rooted my phone, and loaded in a custom ROM. WOW, it was like I had a new phone! Recently I jumped on the
Cyanogen(mod) bandwagon and switched ROM's again. I can now brag that I'm running Gingerbread 2.3.4 on my 2+ year old Droid Eris. Kudos to all the software developers out there who can breathe life into old devices. If your device is showing its age, or feeling bloated and sluggish, you do have options. There of course are very big risks in doing this... you will void your warranty, and there is always that chance that you wind up with an expensive brick in your hand, but for me, it was definitely worth it. You gotta love Android! (Well, at least I do)
