HP's Slate, the promised Windows 7, IPad contender is rumored to be stillborn by HP according to
Techcrunch. The article goes on to conjecture that the device itself may not have been able to compete directly in power handling and ease of use when compared to an IPad.
ZDNet reinforces this by saying that the Slate was conceived in response to rumors of the coming Apple Tablet. It wanted to capitalize on existing and fresh technology and not build new ones such as licensing new ARM designs or creating a new OS. Early in 2010 this formula looked like a winner until a few weeks later when the IPad was introduced and changed the playing field. With an efficient IPhone OS and 256mb main memory the IPad could run circles around the HP slate. Fast forward to today and HP acquires Palm Inc. Everyone is now talking about an HP slate with WebOS, a more worthy competitor to the IPad. WebOS as we know is a worthy and efficient OS that can compete against IPhone OS if the right company executes correctly. Let's hope Palm can be reborn under the HP brand and live on!
