[From Hans] Why Palm Is Headed for a Buyout, by RIM is an interesting editorial by The New York Times. "Palm was king of the handheld screen when it launched its popular Palm Pilot handheld device back in the 1990s. But it’s since been almost forgotten in a flurry of competitors vying for a slice of the smartphone market. And when it recently tried to launch a phone and underlying operating system that rivaled Apple’s iPhone in elegance and ambition, the phones failed to sell. Given its recent earnings and desperate cash position, it’s clear the company is heading for a spectacular failure.
Can Palm turn itself around by raising more cash and tweaking its strategy? The only promise for Palm’s future is a buyout. And the only buyer that makes sense is BlackBerry maker Research In Motion." Read in full.

[From Ultan] Hi Sammy,
Cheers from Australia. I am getting ready to go camping for Easter so this is just a short note on a thought about the iPad. I think the iPad could make a good family internet device. If the iPad was positioned some where around the house (e.g. the kitchen or family room) then family members could use it to quickly check their email or quickly look some thing up on the Internet. The quick start up and ease of use would make the iPad ideal for this type of use. It would be even better if the iPad offered some sort of user profile that would let family members quickly change to their email account and screen preferences.

[From Anthony Yates, Utah] Sammy you'll be pleased to know that my iPad is on its way. I can't wait to get it, I'm like a child at Christmas. The first thing I'll do is set up email and probably surf PA on it. I'm looking forward to lounging and reading my favorite websites and keeping up to speed with Twitter. I also have an iPhone and so it will compliment that too.

[From eXpansys] eXpansys have sent word that if you order the HTC Legend by 3pm today UK time you should have your device before Easter, [I presume this only applies to my readers in the UK]. "Order up to 3pm on the 31st of March to get your brand new HTC Legend delivered to you before the Easter Bank Holiday!
Think of the HTC Hero but finished in a complete aluminium chassis. This could be the most stylish, good-looking phone HTC have released yet - HTC have pulled out all the stops!
Also running the HTC Sense menu system, it really complements the usability of the Android operating system (now running version 2.1). Get in line to place your order today - be one of the first to own this beautiful smartphone!"

[From Jimmy Andersen] Over 350,000 cell phones are thrown away in the U.S. everyday. There's a new company in Northwest Arkansas that wants to put in their helping hand. GadgetSalvage.com is the newest re-Commerce business in the South and prides itself on their green business ways. GadgetSalvage.com today introduced its online exchange dedicated to giving individual consumers an easy way to sell pre-owned lifestyle goods on the Web. With an initial focus on consumer electronics - including high end cell phones, gaming consoles, GPS devices and electronic books - GadgetSalvage.com eliminates the hurdles of selling items online by offering consumers a service that meets their desire to "sell it now" and quickly turn their items into cash. By providing a quick and easy way for consumers to get a guaranteed price for the products they no longer need, Gadget Salvage does the work of finding new owners for functional products, or at the very least, guides the products through the proper recycling process.
"Most people don't realize that some of their phones and other electronics collecting dust in a drawer at their house still have a monetary value. And if we have to pay these people to realize this and can help with the recycling process, then that's what we'll do," says Nathan Smith, the co-founder and CEO of GadgetSalvage.
GadgetSalvage has made the selling process very easy. All you have to do is find your specific gadget, answer a few questions about the condition, fill out a shipping form and then you can expect a box at your door within 2-5 business days. You then pack up the gadget and send the box back. You can expect a check for your gadget within 5 business days or get paid immediately via PayPal. GadgetSalvage has already brought in more than 100 different items over the past two months with prices varying from $20-$300.
GadgetSalvage wants it to be easier than ever to sell electronics from your home and have succeeded in doing so. Help out America’s e-Waste problem and get paid for being GREEN!

[From Myke] Hi Sammy,
Had a little fiddle with a Samsung Genio Slide today - it has the features of a smartphone, in a stylish way. I can tell you, I was so happy to get back to my Hero. The Genio seemed slow, unresponsive and the screen size is tiny - almost impossible to even touch, with the text input box open. I've become more dependant on my Hero recently, what with (as I've explained before), my new SIM from O2, giving me 3G speeds (get in touch with your operator if you're not getting 3G!), I'm able to do more whilst I'm on the go. The fact that people say the Hero's battery is poor. I've seen worse. Although, admittedly I do put it on charge every night (not that it's empty, but it won't last me the next day) even when I've been using 3G most of the day. I've came from a N95 to the Hero - and you're probably bored because I bat on about it so much, but honestly, it's my best friend... (ok that sounds kinda sad), I mean it's the best PA I could have... :) It's great. Few bad things - glitches and the camera's shutter speed is poor, so when taking pictures you have to stand for like... 10 hours before you can say ok you can move now. Hopefully 2.1 will fix all the glitches. Keep up the great content, I look forward to reading what's been published everyday when I get in from college (my RSS reader on my Hero isn't working recently o.o) ....
