SKYPE 3.0 for Windows Mobile has been let loose. "The Skype folks seem to release new versions of the VoIP program all the time on one platform or another. That would exclude Windows Mobile as they seem to sit on versions for a very long time. Palm Pre Smartphone Mostly Pleases

Once the innovative leader of the smartphone world, it has fallen by the wayside in recent years as newcomers such as Apple and Google have bested it with fresher mobile operating systems. Palm has sunk a lot of time and money into developing the Pre and webOS, its brand new smartphone platform. As Boeing once bet its future on the 747, and Ford on the Taurus, so is Palm taking a huge leap of faith in this new mobile operating system and smartphone. Will Palm be able to follow in Boeing and Ford's footsteps?"

[From Lawrence Gitterman Thousand Islands Canada] Hi Sammy I just did a search ( as it happens, I was asking for "B and B's") on the search feature in the new iPhone 3.0 update. Up came dozens of old emails which I thought I had deleted. When I touched any one of them, the original email opened in full in my in-box. When I touched the inbox link, it returned to the inbox but the "found" email wasn't listed. Try it for yourself. Who needs the CIA!

E-mail without the data plan

[From Jordan Teichmann, in Toronto, Ontario Canada] Just before leaving for a four month backpacking trip to Europe I picked up a used Palm TX. Having left behind a significant other, it was my lifeline to home. Every open wifi network was a free refresh of my gmail inbox, and when I had time to myself I used a fold-up keyboard to compose my replies. I still use it for Sudoku and receiving mail on campus, as it's great for areas with free wireless. Despite my fondness for the device, it's a bit combersome to carry around a cell phone as well, and I imagine my next choice will be a hybrid between the two.

Still using my Tungsten TX

[From Dean Kinard, Longmont, CO] I use my Palm Tx strictly for Internet Access to keep up with email, current events, and other internet related activity. I have no need for the phone part of a mobile unit since I am retired and do not want the added expense of monthly cell phone service. Free wireless connectivity is readily available at hotels and airports when I am traveling. My Palm Tx is getting old and only supports 402.11 b access. I would use the HTC-Pro 2 only to acess free 402.11 b/g networks.

A future Mobile Technology to be desired for: "Remote Control mode for a smartphone"

Philippines] Using a smart phone as a remote control to drive cars is very helpful, no need to learn how to drive and park your own automobile by then, just press certain buttons or keypad and there you go, you control how you want the car to perform. Also, less road accidents, and less damages will result because things have gotten easier for the driver. Plus the GPS for those navigating to unfamiliar places. Imagine the steering wheel, accelerator gas, brake, clutch gear, etc. all in one smartphone, now that is convenient technology.
