[From Ermin Mistica] I've been an iPhone user now for 5 months. It didn't take me long at all to switch over from my Treo 755p. Prior to that I had been a Treo 650 user for four years and before that a Newton 2100 user (with cell phone for connectivity)...and prior to that a Palm Pilot user. One of the things that started me on the road of mobility was the ability to connect my information while on the go to my computer at home. I have had several PDAs and smartphones in the past that failed at this and it was frustrating. VERY.
Along comes Palm shortly after Newton. While I ended up going the Newton route, I did walk with Palm and the one thing that I loved was the ability to connect. They touted the Palm Pilot as the "connected organizer". Many laud the simplicity of Palm, their "Zen" if you will. That is easily copied. Many people want the technology to fade into the background which is how is should be. Apple got this right and Android while still very PC in it's feel, also has the simplicity down pat. So where does the Palm Pre shine? It's connectivity.
Today Palm has shown that while a little late in the game, they have a product which will shows they remain faithful to their philosophy of Zen, the simplicity and deisgn of their product, innovative ideas but most importantly the have indeed take the idea of connectivity and given it a twist. Not only will the Palm Pre keep all your contacts, calendar, and email/SMS entities organized but it will do so across several platforms; Facebook, Google, AOL, the list goes one and will get longer. I think this is so marvelous, innovative! Why has no one shown even an inkling of it until now? Just yesterday I was wishing for a way to connect my iPhone to my MobileMe account AND my Google account. For the moment, I'd have to jump hurdles to accomplish that but the Palm Pre will do it in the blink of an eye and without breaking a sweat to your computer, to the cloud, to your life. Connectivity will be their strong point as it was when they first marketed themselves as the Palm Pilot by 3Comm, the CONNECTED organizer. Palm has assembled a seeming rag tag team from different outfits, survived near financial ruin and has come up the dark horse in the race. While I for now remain ever faithful to Apple, and hope that Android beats Windows Mobile to a pulp, I most certainly hope to see my quiet friend succeed and find their niche in this still developing market. Palm, you done good!
