Bye 2008... Hello 2009!

I've just got home from a big family gathering with my cousins, lots of 'em. What matters most is not the foods, the drinks, and the parties; but being together with someone familiar to share the smile, hope, and simply saying "happy new year" to someone close to you can give you a warm blanket to get through the new dawn of new year.

I was heading to my bed to lay my heavy head on a comfy pillow, but I then realized I haven't say it to my dear friends at PalmAddict, which I've already considered y'all as my big family in virtual world.

So I pushed myself to turn on the computer to write this, here goes: "Happy New Year 2009!" To all of you who have entered the year 2009, and for you who are about to count down the last tick of the 2008 clock.

Nu Hope for Podcaster?

Apple must have finally backed down on their infamous decision regarding "duplicated functionality" in applications, because a brand new program that lets you stream and/or download podcasts has hit the AppStore:

NuageRadio is currently FREE in the AppStore, from NuageProduction. Type in the URL of your podcast's xml feed, and you're subscribed. And now you're just a couple of clicks away from listening to it, streamed live over the internet, or else you can just download it now so you can listen to it during your internet-less commute.

The developer seems to have two more apps in the pipeline, not yet visible in the AppStore: NuagePaper and NuagePlayer, for free and $3.99 respectively. But you can get a preview of them at http://appshopper.com/search/?search=Nuage

Personally, this feels like a punch in a stomach from Apple. Why is this new application with identical functionality to Podcaster available, when Podcaster (which was submitted first) is still nowhere to be found in the AppStore? I smell a potential lawsuit coming...

BlackBerry Storm is a netbook, says RIM founder

There's definetely something in the air, an airborne influence which is invisible by the naked eyes but spread across and accepted widely by everyone. Nope, I'm not talking about the Christmas spirit or the the new year hope. It's netbook...

Strange is indeed the phenomenon of netbook, the newly born category in notebook crowded pool which Steve Jobs himself calls it as a "nascent category". The Apple CEO even compared his beloved smartphone creation, the iPhone as Apple's netbook.

But apparently, it's not only Steve Jobs who feels that way. Now, it turns out RIM founder and co-CEO; Mike Lazaridis also calls the BlackBerry Storm as RIM's netbook. On a recent interview with CNet Asia at RIM Campus next to the University of Waterloo, Mike Lazaridis said:

"I think I can put Netbooks in here [referring to the BlackBerry Storm]. These are Netbooks. They are just smaller."

Happy New Year to each and every one of you

Firstly I hope that you are all enjoying the holidays wherever you are and whatever faith you celebrate, I hope that you are all having a relaxed time. I currently am spending the New Year in Marrakech, in Morocco, obviously somewhere where I have never spent New Year and of course I am having a great time.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all my writers for their hard efforts in 2008, a big thank you to my editors, Andy JS, Peter Arts and Paul Biba for all their great work throughout 2008. And finally a big thank you to my readers for visiting my site. I certainly enjoy updating PalmAddict and as I have always said it is a great hobby, I have always said that the moment I get bored I will close the site but as we head into our 10th year I still very much enjoy talking about mobile technology, reading your user thoughts and continue to be fascinated with just how mobile technology has evolved throughout the last 10 years PalmAddict has been established.

So, once again, a Happy New Year from myself in Marrakech to all my readers worldwide, I hope your 2009 is a year of happiness, health and peace to each and every one of you.

Zune's suddenly freezing so what is going on?

[From Matto] Sammy Happy New Year, I just loaded up my Zune and now it's suddenly frozen, and apparently I am not alone. Have you had any word from other readers or know if Microsoft have released word on a solution?

[SAMMY Matto I have not heard word and your right the Zune forums are full of users who's Zune have failed today and I hope that Microsoft release a patch or update; in fact I think they don't have much choice as it seems that so many users are experiencing difficulties.]

iPhone nano on the way?
