I'd like to share my life experience with my Palm PDAs with everyone
[From Glen Lee] First of all, I'd like say that PalmAddict has always been a part of my life since I started using a Palm PDA. It's been great to have a community like this one over the past 9 years. Congrats to your success!
I'd like to share my life experience with my Palm PDAs with everyone.
Over the past year and a half, I have kept my Palm LifeDrive under the drawer, waiting for it to get rusty, and eventually fade away. I have been using a windows mobile device ever since then, namely the HTC S730. I've never actually owned nor used a Palm powered phone before such as the Treo line. Anyways, I've always read an ebook or two when I was still using my Palm LifeDrive, ever since I've been using my Windows mobile, I wanted to do the same things I've done with my Palm LifeDrive. Sadly, due to screen restrictions reading an ebook in a small screen is a pain to bear with. So I took out my aging Palm LifeDrive. I've always love palms, from the day I got my very first Palm, which was the Palm Tungsten T, Palm Tungsten T3, and now the LifeDrive. But I've stopped using my LifeDrive due to its problems such as the lag issues, data loss and occassion soft resets.
Back when I was in highschool, I've used my trusty Palm Tungsten T to take down notes, write a paper, do some research, listen to music, watch some videos, and use it mainly as a dictionary. I even bought the Palm Ultra Thin Keyboard so I can quickly type my notes. I've also posted a few articles with it, when I was still an active associate writer here at PalmAddicts. I was told that I was the first associate writer not from Philippines, but from Asia. Over the past years I grew a bond between my Palms PDAs. I have launched a website dedicated to it, Palm Pro was my website which often I posted reviews, tips and tricks and How-to articles about Palm PDAs.
This wasn't a job, it was just a hobby, it was my passion. I even remember there was a time where I posted at least ten different articles in PalmAddicts. I've done a lot of things with my Palm. I was even able to configure my Palm Tungsten T to connect with my mobile phone via Bluetooth to access the internet via GPRS connection. Anyways, let me finish my story on what happened to my LifeDrive. Basically last night, I lost my LifeDrive, my LifeDrive was reborn into a LifeFlash. Due to the lag issues with my Palm LifeDrive and switch to a Windows Mobile based device. But now, my new reborn LifeFlash is quick, there are no more lag issues, It doesnt crash anymore unlike before. I have opened my Palm LifeDrive, took out the Hitatchi 4GB MicroDrive, and replaced it with a Sandisk Extreme III 4GB Compact Flash Card. This is basically the first time I tried fixing something that didn't blow up. I remember a few years ago I was trying to rewrite something in my motherboard when It blew up in flames and smoke, but that's another story.
I believe that by replacing the slow MicroDrive, my Palm LifeDrive gained speed, stability and obviously extended the battery life. No more annoying spinning sound from the drive's discs as well. I am no expert, I never played with wirings and electrical stuff, but here I am, playing with my LifeFlash. If I can do it, anyone can as well. So don't be afraid to try out new things. Replacing your LifeDrive's MicroDrive looks hard and complicated but it's not. There's a wiki article about it, just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. I made a short video clip that shows the soft reset boot up of my LifeFlash. From the normal 2-3 minutes it went down to 28-29 seconds. You can watch the video below . For now, I will play with my LifeFlash more and see if I can still discover new things I can do with it.
