Slinging Away!

Today I am using my Dell Axim x51v with the superb SlingPlayer Mobile software to enjoy a baseball game while roaming around the house.  The video quality on the Axim is great, and when in full screen mode it is like having a portable TV anywhere in the house!  One of the best design choices with this software is that the audio stays consistent even if there is a video hiccup.  I find it much more tolerable to see the video stutter if the audio remains unbroken, so kudos to the developers for that.  For anyone who is on the go all the time, but wants to be able to quickly check in on the game or perhaps the weather, I highly recommend getting a Slingbox and this software!

Facebook allow free text messages

[From Chris D] Chris just IM'd me tis snippet of information for those of you who use facebook and want to be able to send free text messages. Make sure the recipient enables their mobile phone to receive text alerts when they receive a message to them via facebook. The text will let them know the facebook wall text, and costs the person sending the message nothing especially especially if they are sending via their computer and the recipient is only charged the normal cost of receiving a text message. This defiantly works for facebook wall messages.

What I have on my iPhone

I thought you might be interested in the apps I have on my iPhone.  My iPhone is not jailbroken as I have no intention of risking my phone, or voiding my warranty, by fooling around with unknown applications.  I've had enough crashes and hard resets on my Palms and Windows Mobile phones from applications that were poorly written.  I think its great that Apple is vetting all the applications that they have on the store.  Here goes:

Mobile News from the AP:  best news program out there

Pyramid and BJ Run from Seahorse Software:  ports of the classic games for the Palm by this excellent developer

Solitaire Forever:  inexpensive solitaire collection with a huge number of different games and instructions for them all

Acid Solitaire:  again a port by a first rate Palm developer

Shanghai Mahjong:  I think this is the best of the Mahjong games

Moonlight Mahjong Lite:  free Mahjong game that is very will done

Jive Lite:  free Bejewelled game that's very cute

Enigmo:  this game really shows off what the iPhone's graphics engine can do

Points Calc: for those of us who have to watch their weight

Weather Bug:  neat little weather application

Splash Shopper:  from the Palm world.  I've been waiting for this for ages

Stanza:  ebook reader

eReader:  ebook reader

Path Tracker:  great GPS application that I've written about before

Little Chef:  to covert various units of measure used in cooking

Google:  Google's iPhone app

I remember AFK SameGame from my Psion Revo days and this type of game is always good fun. "SameGame is a highly addictive puzzle strategy game. The goal is to remove all gems from the board. This is done by clicking on a gem, however it must touch at least one other gem of the same color. The more gems of the same color touch, the more points you get. Also, there are bonus points for clearing a screen. " Retails for $9.95 as it is on special offer which ends today.

"M2E Power has announced the development of an external charger for mobile devices that will use kinetic energy as its source. M2E promised recently that it will introduce a small portable charger next year. This will allow someone to charge a phone for 30 to 60 minutes by carrying it around for 6 hours or so. It hopes to someday see portable electronics with this technology built right into them."
