Applications on my new 3G iPhone
Here are some screenshots of the applications I have downloaded from the iTunes store for my new 3G iPhone. Some of them I bought and some of them are free. I won't give urls, as all of the programs can be found by going to the iTunes store.
The first one you see is an ebook reader called Stanza. It works like a charm and connects with my Macbook, from which it downloads books in a large variety of formats. So far this program is free, but I think they are going to charge for it later. Stanza will display books in both the portrait and landscape mode.
The next program is an old standby from my Palm days - Splash Shopper. It is really great to have this back on the iPhone. It works just like the Palm version did, but it is so much more convenient to be able to control it with my finger. It works in both portrait and landscape mode. It cost me $9.99 and is well worth it. Splash Data also has a Mac program for the desktop that will sync with the iPhone and let you transfer lists and keep both the phone and desktop in sync. It costs about $20 and they have a trial version. I have the trial and it works like a charm. Haven't decided whether to buy it or not.
Next is another program from my Palm days - Acid Solitaire by Red Mercury. A great program then and a great program now. It works in landscape or portrait and has 3 games - Spider, Solitaire and Freecell. It cost me $9.99 and is worth every penny.
Up next is a wonderful Mahjong program called Shanghai Mahjong. It only works in landscape mode. What sets this program apart from others is that you can download, for free, extra tilesets, backgrounds and layouts directly onto the iPhone from the developer. They are all free. Shanghai Mahjong cost me only $4.99 and is probably the best buy of them all. Get it!
Next up is a free program - Pandora. I love Pandora radio and here you see it playing from one the the Baroque stations I have set up. The main problem with Pandora is that it won't play in the background, so if you have to switch away from it the program closes. I don't have 3G service here at home, but it works just fine under Edge.
Another free program is Moonlite Mahjong Lite. This program, unlike Shanghai Mahjong, allows you to resize the board, rotate it, zoom in and zoom out. Neat and great fun to play with. You can't change the tiles or backgrounds. Haven't decided wether to buy the full version yet.
Weatherbug is the next free program. I actually prefer the Weather Underground iPhone website, but Weatherbug has some neat features that Weather Underground doesn't have. It's worth getting.
Finally, Fictionwise's free book reader - eReader. Fictionwise says that it is a work in progress and will improve considerably over the coming months. It allows me to download books from both my Fictionwise and eReader accounts.
That's it so far. As I get some more programs I'll keep you update. It is really neat to see some of the old line Palm developers weighing in on the iPhone front.
