[From Jonathan Parsons, New York] I had been considering the Nokia N800 internet tablet but was not satisfied due to the lack of office document software and core PIM applications such as contacts, calendar, tasks, and notes. When I heard about the Garnet Virtual Machine, a PalmOS emulator, I decided to give this Linux based device a try. After loading my Palm apps, and reverting to Datebook5 and older version of other programs, I began using it as my Palm inside my Linux handheld. I noticed that I missed certain core applications such as Tasks, and others were the Garnet version, not the Palm/palmOne version on my Treo 650. Then it locked up and crashed. When I restarted, the GVM data file was reset and all my information was lost. Since I was persistent, I reinstalled everything again and the same thing happened. It seemed to have many minor crashes and a couple major crashes where I lost everything. I am now back to my Treo 650, and use the N800 as a great WiFi web browser. The Garnet Virtual Machine was a real disappointment.
