Tascal Same Game

Still in the topic of a Same Game, the other day I stumbled upon a Pocket PC Same Game freeware from TascalSoft: TSG (Tascal Same Game).

Nothing fancy here; it is essentially similar to Jawbreaker. The installer is small enough, about 382 bytes, so it will not take much space. Go ahead give it a try.

iphone to have true GPS in June!

Apple is reportedly ready to add support for true GPS hardware to the iPhone platform. This functionality could show up in the form of built-in GPS hardware, a dock-connected peripheral, or not at alImagesl — but the software is ready.

Location sensitivity on the iPhone is currently limited to triangulation based on the proximity of cellular signal towers and mapped WiFi access points. iPhone OS 2.0 will reportedly add a new live location tracking feature that will automatically track the user’s current location in the Maps application on a persistently updating basis. With this new technologoy, iPhone would result in a constantly moving blue, pulsing ball indicating your current location and indicate your changing location.

This is quite a feature if you ask me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Go APPLE and Go GPS!

Jawbreaker

Quite often I encounter PC games that I wish some kind of ports exist for Pocket PC. Once in a while, however, it is the opposite: I encounter Pocket PC games that I wish, or at least I am curious to see their desktop counterparts available as well. One of such games is Jawbreaker.

According to the wikipedia article here, Jawbreaker is essentially a SameGame variant that comes bundled with Windows Mobile 2003SE. My O2 Xda IIi PDA Phone has it. That is how I actually got to know about the game. Before that I had never heard nor known such a game. It is just a quickie game, one you probably spend to kill some time, but a nice game nevertheless. So the other day I wondered if such a desktop counterpart exists. Well, Ubuntu Linux comes with Same GNOME, a variant of SameGame on Gnome Desktop Environment, pre-installed, but I was curious about Windows version. Thanks to the wikipedia article (link posted above), I discovered that it indeed exists, and as a freeware too.

So I gleefully downloaded the program. It bears striking resemblance with its Pocket PC counterpart. An excellent little game. Note that I can even run it well with Wine under Linux. Go ahead, try it!

I love DateBook

[From Paul in San Jose, CA] Hi Sammy. Thanks to you and all the other contributors/writers for keeping the site interesting. This seems like a minor feature but what really convinced me to pay money for the DateBook application for my T3 was the simple ability to have a split screen that showed To Do items and Calendar events for each day of the week. So now I can more easily match up To Do items to the unscheduled areas of my calendar rather than having to switch back and forth between applications and trying to remember how many To Do's I had already scheduled for Monday versus any other day this week. Bingo, scratch another To Do off the list.

Spring cleaning with my mobile device.

[From Vinit gupta, India] Dear Sammy ,As always, reading palmaddicts inspires me to use my mobile device in different ways. As everyone is in spring cleaning mood these days, I realized my desk at my small office needed it too. So I sat down with my cup of tea for the big task. I switched off the computer so no emails or im would disturb me. Nor would the temptation to casual surf the net. And I had my imate jasjam (HTC Hermes) to help me all the way. As there load of pile of papers I first sorted them into diff categories and filed the important ones immediately. The with the not so important ones, I clicked pics of them with my mobile device and kept them under a folder called 'misc scans'. There were also a lot of sticky notes like a persons phone number. I imediately added those to my contacts on the mobile. Ditto for visiting cards. The macro focus camera on the hermes made the task easy. Misc jotts were also made on my mobile devices and papers thrown off. So now I had digital copies of all the heaps of papers on my desk. All this was synced to my outlook later when I started my computer. So in all one produtive day with my mobile device.

Classics Are Still In Style

[From Larry Haakenson-Komro Altoona, WI, USA] I still lovingly cling to my old Palm Vx, despite receiving grief from friends for not upgrading into the color world of PDAs. My response is that, when it comes to cars, classics are always looked at fondly by everyone. This is true with my Vx, as well as some of the games I play on it. Many of us can remember the old TV game Pong, which will be forever linked with black and white TV screens. Now, when I receive comments about my greyscale Vx screen, I always call up the game TVGames, which is a terrific PDA reproduction of Pong. The next sentence I hear is usually, "Hey, I remember that!" Ah, the classics....

Why Don't Companies Sell Unlocked Phones?

[From David McDanal] Hey Sammy, hope your week is starting off well. Its funny, even though I have only been reading this site for a couple of months Palm Addicts and Lifehacker are the two sites that I HAVE to check daily. Keep up the great work! I am impressed that for the last couple of weeks I really havn't used a computer during the day at all. I do everything over my Tmo Dash. I now see the potential of the smartphone as replacing your laptop. I don't miss it at all during the day. One thing that doesn't make sense is why smartphone manufacturers don't sell unlocked phones for a decent price. It seems that they would sell so many more. Especially since in the smartphone world, people have specific features that they are looking for and each phone seems to have many distinctive characteristics. Each carrier only has one or two smartphones to choose from (except Att). Because of contractual reasons, they might have to sell them for a little more than what a carrier would offer with a contract, but its amazing how you can't get any phones unless you order them from the web. I would defiantly pay a little extra for an unlocked Tilt, as long as I didn't have to get an ATT plan. On Ebay though, they cost 500-600 bucks! Its not worth that much to me, but I could drop $350 on the phone.

Smartphone, Here I Come!

[From Josh Morgan] Hey, Sammy! I've recently come across your site, and it has been very helpful in my search for a smartphone. I've had my cell phone for 6 years now, and I recently realized it is the gadget I use (and like) the least, yet it is the one I have around the most often. I prefer communicating by email, IM, etc. and use the internet and my iPod much more often. Yet it is hard to carry a laptop around everywhere (especially into Disneyland :) ). Well, my contract will be up in less than a month, and I realized moving to the smartphone realm would be fun AND productive. I'll feel like I can actually use this device I'm hauling around all the time and enjoy it, doing various duties all day. My battle is now just deciding which device (on a newlywed grad student budget)...

Virtual or physical

[From Gilson] I’m about to exchange my 18 months old HTC TyTN and, even though the TyTN II seemed to be the logical path, my next device is going to be a Touch Cruise. I have no complains on the TyTN. It’s solid keyboard has served me well, mostly while using Messenger throughout the day to talk to my wife from work, or to write an occasional urgent e-mail on the road. Actually, being able to see the whole screen while typing on a hardware keyboard has proven to be very comfortable, even on a small device. Problem is that writing is not the dominant action in my usage pattern. Most of the time I’m selecting, reading, searching, watching and, when data entry is required, typing small pieces of text. For example, sometimes it’ s a little awkward to slide out the keyboard just to type an URL on the browser. On top of that, I’ve been using SPB Mobile Shell and it showed me the benefits of one handed operation. The stylus rarely sees the light of day and the most used functions are always a few finger touches away. The Cruise may be the perfect solution. It has a surface mounted display that will make reaching the corners and borders easier, and two new software keyboards that, if not as fast as the TyTN hardware keyboard, at least will allow me to type without using both hands. I can even try other virtual keyboards from CooTek, Resco and SPB, if needed.

Bulk Emails From My TX

[From Alan] Hiya Sammy, How's the air over there? Great I hope. I just sent out 156 emails in minutes from my TX. Having just been accepted to seminary I now have the privilege of paying the tuition. fortunately I had already set up a group contact list in anticipation and I just emailed my closest friends and family. Ok, and everyone else at the last three churches I have attended.

Preparing for seminary

[From Alan] Hey Sammy and gang, How is the weather in PA land? I have to tell you, I just got my acceptance letter to seminary today and I am already making lists on my TX of things I have to get done before Greek starts June 30. It will not be long now before I am writing you from Mississippi instead of Iowa. Have a great day guys!

Time flys when you are having fun

[From Bradley Lowe Orange County, CA] I have found my self spending a lot of time playing games on my treo 650. I have had a lot a random free time such as waiting for my wife, my daughter, meetings and the train. I have a race car game that i find very enjoyable and i play texas hold em from time to time. Overall I am just really glad that i have my phone or I might have to actually talk to someone or read!!! j/k

Treo 700P on Vacation

[From Jon / Rochester, NY] I spent last week on vacation in Florida, and decided to travel very "Gadget Light". Only brought my trusty 700P, my small digital camera, and my GPS. Never even had to break out the GPS because the mini-van I was using had one in it. I had 3GB of SD cards for my digital camera, so I left the laptop home. Surprisingly I didn't even use the 700P that much. First thing I did was turn off my Butler alarms. I checked the weather every morning using "Weather" by deluxeware.com, and enjoyed seeing how much colder it was in NY. I stayed away from e-mail for the week (mostly) and just read a bit of the news while sitting on the beach. It was nice to have access to weather radar on my Treo the one day that the sky turned very dark while on the beach. Tic-Tac-Toe on my Treo is now my daughter's favorite thing to do while flying, which helped keep everyone happy!

T|X, Administrating routers on the go

[From Lourdes Villegas from La Paz, BOLIVIA] Most wireless routers can be configured via any web browser, and what i have been doing is playing around with the settings of my new Linksys WRT300N using my T|X. This must be a wonderful tool for sys admins in charge of several Access Points, such in the case of a big hotel and it saves the hassle of being carrying around a laptop.

SCRABBLE 1.2

SCRABBLE 1.2This seems a great and fun program."Play SCRABBLE®, the world's most popular word game on your Palm OS device! The Handmark SCRABBLE® Game for the Palm OS is designed to play just like the classic board game. It utilizes a drag-and-drop tile placement interface, a built-in Official Scrabble Player's Dictionary, automatically scores every game and even saves partially completed games to be continued at any time! Choose to play in either Friendly or Tournament mode. Friendly mode is like a casual family game where you can choose to accept or reject words not outside the standard rules. Friendly mode also allows the "Suggest Move" option displaying suggestions for your next move. Choose the Tournament mode and you are playing by the classic SCRABBLE rules. Includes challenges that automatically check the built-in Official Scrabble Player's Dictionary!."

Merelin - The Oracle of the Mind

Merelin - The Oracle of the MindThis seems a great mind game."Merelin - The Oracle of the Mind will attempt to read your mind. Just choose mentally a card and concentrate on it and Merelin will guess which one was it. The Oracle of the Mind will never go wrong. You will be impressed by its answer. Time to show your friends a real MAGIC!!!."

Hot Pipes 1.6

Hot Pipes 1.6This seems a great fun program."Hot Pipes is an award-winning puzzle game in which you undertake to transport as much water as possible without spilling it. You do this with the help of... right, pipes. Pipe segments appear from one corner of the game field, while the water is flowing from another. The game plot is to place the segments on the field so that the water can flow through it swimmingly. Should you fail and let the water spill out, the game ends and you receive your score proportionate to the length of the pipe you have managed to build. But be attentive - the longer you play, the faster goes the water."

SkinUI v. 2.2.0.0 for free... but no more apps from Dmitry?

skinuiOne of the major complains about palm Os is the interface... it is kind of old, you all noticed that, however there are some ways to tweak it from launchers and complete GUI make up... just like SkinUI  does.

SkinUI change the buttons, bars, navigation, alert boxes, colors... everything  even cool effects like disolve and other transitions, this app is from palmpowerups i don't think someone can say that doesn't know the work from Dmitry, maybe the best palm Os programmer, he has been fixing our beloved Os for five years and he is doing his last app and so long... that is right after the new ROM for LIfeDrive is released Dmitry will stop developing Palm Os software...  not so good news.

The good news is that for the support of the community of Palm OS user he has released SkinUI for free so everyone can make his palm look great, hurry and get ir from palmpowerups, it is one of the best app i ever tried for sure.

Dmitry thanks for all the apps you've made they are all great the free and the non free, it doesn't matter, you show palm how the system can be better and gave us a better device, good look on your journey we will always be expecting news from you... Thanks

P.S. I hope Dmitry releases his anticipated Opera Mini tweak soon.

EQO's solution simultaneously capitalizes on the rapid growth of mobile social networking and the immediate opportunity in mobile international calling. According to Informa Research, mobile social networking revenues could reach US$52 billion by 2012. Insight Research, also reported that the worldwide international calling market reached $300 billion in 2006, with International VoIP revenues forecasted to reach $87 billion this year.

Manage Money and Secure Passwords on Both Mobiles and Macs with New Versions of SplashMoney and SplashID

[From Kevin Doel] Los Gatos, CA (MobilityNewswire) April 22, 2008 -- SplashData, Inc., the leading provider of productivity software for smartphones, today announced Mac OS X versions of its popular SplashMoney personal finance application and SplashID 4 secure password manager. Both applications synchronize with their respective mobile applications. The company also announced a standalone version of SplashMoney for Mac OS X for users that do not have a compatible mobile device.

With SplashMoney, Mac users now have access to a complete personal financial manager that enables them to securely record transactions, track account balances, generate reports and budgets, and manage finances while on the go. SplashMoney features wireless access to online bank accounts - an ideal feature for laptops and smartphones, a streamlined user interface, charting of financial data, the ability to assign icons to transactions, transaction filtering, and bank account reconciliation.

SplashMoney supports most account types, including checking, savings, credit card, cash, asset, liability, and money market accounts.

Mac users of SplashID have been anxiously waiting for the release of SplashID 4, which includes substantial updates such as Web Auto-Fill, a feature that simplifies entering user names and passwords by using a web browser to go directly to a site and then retrieving the username and password directly from SplashID to auto-fill in the record. Other key features in SplashID 4 include improved ways to view and find information, such as the new Panel and Tree views, and an Auto Search feature that retrieves records simply by entering a few letters in the Find box.

Advanced users of SplashID 4 can use the new Database Sync feature to select multiple databases to synchronize with on the Mac desktop and easily share data with other users, even across a network.

The security of personal financial data on mobile devices is of chief concern to many, and SplashData has incorporated secure password protection in both SplashMoney and SplashID using 256-bit Blowfish encryption to protect against malicious hacking or other threats.

The SplashMoney and SplashID versions that include both handheld and desktop applications are available now for $29.95 each at www.splashdata.com. They are also available as part of the SplashWallet Suite, which includes SplashID, SplashPhoto, SplashShopper, and SplashMoney, at a 50% discount. The desktop-only versions of SplashMoney and SplashID, available for both Windows and Mac, are available for $19.95. Full functioning 30-day trial versions are also available for download.

Where do you charge your handheld?

If you're like me, you just plug your Treo into the wall and lay it on the floor. It doesn't look particularly neat and you have to watch out that you don't step on it or your dog doesn't pee on it (but maybe your dog is better trained than mine).

Here's a cool device I came across thanks to the unclutterer blog. Its a little plastic shelf your charger holds in place while your device charges. I think its a great option to the sloppiness of laying it on the ground or piling it on top (or beneath) the paperwork on your desk. I think I'll even get one myself.

Sweet deal on (3rd-Gen) 4GB iPod Nano

I know I've just posted a news about Apple's DRM trouble with its iTunes here at PA, but this offer for just US$99.99 for the 3-rd gen of 4GB iPod Nano is too sweet to pass by. It's currently offered by Buy.com, the only drawbacks are its available in silver color only & the warranty expires after 60 days of the purchase.

Thanks for Rick Broida (The Cheapskate) for the heads up. Somebody can help me to order one & send it to me? ;-D

Nokia gets Sony BMG's music muscle support

Apple was having a difficult time back then with their fight with Warner Music on DRM terms, and at that time the freedom to download and move your own musics to any music devices seemed diminish over time up until now. Sony BMG is teaming up with Nokia to launch a partnership in distributing legal musics along with Nokia's handsets, which Nokia called its service as "Comes with Music".

The deal is that you can only download Sony BMG's featured artists such as Alicia Keys (hey, don't stare too long at her picture there ;-D), Foo Fighters, etc. after purchasing a selected Nokia handset. For one year, you're elligible to transfer any of those downloaded music files into your PC or to a new Nokia handset. At the last year, you'll have a choice between acquire a new music or join Nokia Music store's subscription service.

As reported by Greg Sandoval (Crave) here, this big step of partnership shows a huge support into free musics. And an attempt by music industries to fight back piracy, shrinking old distribution form in CDs & eventually Apple's DRM-trouble iTunes!

Of course Apple is not going to sit down and watch their piece of iTunes market cake got eaten by Nokia, rumor has it that Apple is on discussion with music labels for similar offers like Nokia's Comes with Music program.

It's so exciting to know that your favorite mobile manufacturers are all trying to bring better additional services to pamper us, but how about Palm? Looks like Palm is still relying on selling its branded smartphones with basic features...

Palm Centro Smartphones Navigate City Chase Participants to the Finish Line

[From Palm PR] Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM) and City Chase Inc. today announced that Palm(R) Centro(TM) smartphones will aid thousands of U.S. contestants competing in physical, intellectual and humorous challenges during the 2008 City Chase events in eight major cities - Philadelphia, Atlanta, San Francisco, San Diego, New York, Boston, Seattle and Chicago. Over four months, the Palm Centro will help teams complete tasks, search for ChasePoints and ultimately win a spot in the national and world championships of the City Chase urban-adventure race.

Centro provides easy access to the web, maps and directions, texting and calling(1) - all of which help the two-person teams make quick decisions as they run, walk or use public transit to navigate their way throughout the city. City Chase, an internationally recognized organization that provides reality experiential one-day events, invites everyone from couch potatoes to athletes to reality TV fanatics to compete in the challenges that will take them out of their comfort zones, and maybe around the globe.

"City Chase is all about teamwork, resourcefulness and the ability to make decisions on the fly," said Jason Erkes, City Chase Inc. "Palm's Centro is the perfect tool to help contestants, whether it's connecting with teammates through SMS or browsing the web for information to help teams navigate--it's just a matter of who's faster."

"Centro offers a simple and fun way for contestants to stay connected throughout the race and earn ChasePoints more quickly," said Brodie Keast, senior vice president of marketing for Palm, Inc. "With all the features of a typical smartphone packed into the convenient size of a traditional mobile phone, it's the perfect tool for racing from landmark to landmark, or from work to happy hour."

City Chase kicks off in Philadelphia on May 3 with thousands of participants using Centro to complete mobile challenges throughout the city and find ChasePoints. While in the City of Brotherly Love, two ChasePoints will revolve around using key Centro features:

-- SMS: While separated, team members will use their Centro's SMS feature to communicate with each other. By answering trivia questions correctly, one member of the team will have to navigate his/her way to a desired location.

-- Video, Photos and Email: Teams will be on a hunt armed with Centro smartphones and a list of videos and photos they must capture, including landmarks such as Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Teams must email the videos and photos to a specific address in order to earn a ChasePoint.

Well as to how I have been using my devices

[From Toto Laluces ] Well as to how I have been using my devices:
I have a Nokia E61 smartphone which serves as my main phone. (taking calls, text messages, mobile internet and media). I also have my ever trustworthy device, my Palm Tungsten E2 which serves as my main office organizer, ubiquitous capture device (I am a GTD disciple) and for quick notes. All information is captured using my E2 and I send it to my smartphone via bluetooth. I was using an Asus P525 Pocket PC Phone a few months back, but I gave it to my father for him to use. I love it when I encourage people to actually use mobile technology and use it effectively.

Geek's wedding rings

Okay, I know I loves network very much. But I don't think my love for the technology is that far to take it into a marriage ring form, like you can see at the picture left. It's a CAT5e compliant wedding ring, which each one of them are suitable for the male & female groom... For the female ring there you can choose from different colors such as turquoise, white, orange or black; but for the male you'll get the huge CAT5e jack! If you're interested jump to here for ordering invoice around $7.00 only.

Rings_340x234But if above network wedding ring is not the right choice for you, and you much prefer a wedding ring that resemblance your love for the Bejeweled game; than you may as well pick this one up. It's a Swarovski Crystal Engagement Ring, with USB Flash drive included in it & a neck rope just in case you wish to hang it around in front of your chest instead. It suit perfectly after your girlfriend has just finished the modified Bejeweled game and the proposal pops up, then if she still in doubt you can bend on one knee and propose with this ring... ;-p

iPhone will get genuine GPS feature

Yet another interesting blog from iPhone Atlas here, a man named Steffen Voight discovered that in current iPhone SDK; Apple has included a support for true GPS hardware to the next platform. The emulator found by Voight includes references to NMEA, a data specification for communication between various location sensing devices. Pheew... that's a long line there, for longer ones refer to GPSinformation.org page here.

Is this mean that the next rumored 3G iPhone will include a hardware-based GPS component inside it? I'll say that would be very useful, especially when you're holding Starbucks coffee cups and the other hand is using an iPhone to find the meeting place with clients. ;-p

Indiana Jones mania

O my goodness, time sure flies by so quickly. Just one month more, before the release of the most awaited movie of the years: Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of Crystal Skull! The countdown is ticking... But wait, do I hear someone shouted “Why would I care for just another Hollywood movie?” Well, maybe some below reasons might change your mind there:

  • it’s been almost 19 years since the third movie, so to think why would George Lucas & Steven Spielberg wanted to resurrect Dr. Indiana Henry Jones Jr. back to silver screen again for the fourth one; would be enough to spark your curiosity isn’t it?
  • it’s a Steven Spielberg movie for cryin’ out loud!
  • no one except the actors, actresses & everyone who are involved directly with the movie; have know of the movie’s storyline. Spielberg & Lucas have made it very strict on the secrecy of the story; they even made people who work in it to sign a contract that stated them not to leak the story to anyone.
  • the movie is set to be released world wide on May 22th, only such a major movie will get such treatment from Hollywood power house.
  • the cast of stars like Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett, Shia LaBeouf, John Hurt and many more; surely has stated enough this is a huge movie.
  • maybe the very-last movie of Indiana Jones to be made.
  • Google it up, and you’ll get too many of hits that your monitor’s vertical resolution can handle. Including some funny behind the stories before the movie was made, read them here.

Pheew, I think I should stop there. Otherwise I’ll sounds more like a PR for Indiana Jones movie ;-p

IndionscummvmBut what that’s all about got to do with PA & your mobile phone? If you’re a huge fan of Indiana Jones, or love playing games with your mobile gadgets; then you can replay the old RPG game: Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis (pictured left). Just to rekindle the spirit of the past memories, where sometimes those old 2D games are still my favorites to play even for now. If you recall I’ve posted long ago here at PA about it, too bad LucasArts is no longer make such adventure games like Indiana Jones there & Monkey Island 2 anymore.

But you may be wondering on how to make those old games run on your current modern gadgets right? Well, this is where ScummVM will barge in. ScummVM will become the engine to bridge the old platform with the nowadays OS of your devices, the current version (v0.11.1) has already supported many OS platforms. Including Windows Mobile 6, Palm OS 5, iPhone, etc., just download it from their website here.

I’ve noticed Sammy & our fellow Associate Writer, Ronald Abadi have also posted about it here at PA. Check it out; it’s a nice getaway if you’re bored with modern games. Although you’ll still need the games you wanted to play aside from ScummVM engine, you probably could get them from eBay or others places which sell official old games. I'm off to play the Fate of Atlantis now, it's been years since the last time I played it. Remember, stay safe and stay legal! ;-D

Fix your iPhone WiFi connection with these steps

Are you having issue where the WiFi connection of your iPhone is repeatedly drop & reverting to EDGE connectivity? Then follow these steps below, provided by iPhone Atlas here:

  • Modify router settings Try modifying the settings on your wireless router in the following ways: Enable the DHCP server increase the maximum number of users. Change the starting distributed IP address to something with only one digit at the end (e.g. 192.168.1.6). Extend the client lease time. You can also try modifying the security settings on your router. Switch from WEP to WPA or vice versa and from high to low security or vice versa.

  • Restart router Simply unplugging your wireless router from power then reconnecting it can allow persistent iPhone WiFi connectivity.

  • Renew DHCP lease Go to Settings > Wi-Fi, then tap the arrow next to your current WiFi network and tap “Renew Lease.”

Dilbert goes Web 2.0

One of my favorite cartoon that accompany me whenever I read my morning newspaper, with an addictive cup of coffee in the other hand: Dilbert. I do believe many of you also love the quirky, and sometimes too many sarcastic lines that Dilbert bring to our modest cubicle life. Still in the craze-ness of Web 2.0 Expo that I was previously talking about, Scott Adams and the Dilbert's distributor, United Media; have chose to launch the old-web-style of Dilbert into the glamarous Web 2.0.

The main difference in the new Dilbert web site is readers will get a new interactive features, that allow them to write their own "punch-line" in the ending of available Dilbert comic strips. In the next future upgraded version, United Media has planned to allow readers to write the whole "punch-lines" in one whole comic strip. While slated to be released in May this year, a new feature will allow Dilbert fans & readers to write the entire dialogue for a single Dilbert comic panel.

Oooh..., I can feel the excitement to "mash-ups" those Dilbert's characters even right now. ;-D Read on the Daniel Terdiman article at Webware here, where Scott Adams has explained why he & United Media are opening up the Dilbert intellectual property like this: "We're accepting the realities of IP on the Internet, and trying to get ahead of the curve. People already alter Dilbert strips and distribute them. If we make it easy and legal to do so, and drive more traffic to Dilbert.com in the process, everyone wins. Plus it's a lot of fun to see what people come up with in the mashups."

Just as what you'll expect from the witty mind of Dilbert creator, very savvy indeed. I do hope they'll bring a mobile version of Dilbert Web 2.0 web features, that we can enjoy with our mobile phones.

Pawn your iPhone with the Windows version tool

Aaah, this is what all of you guys who've been waiting for unlocking your iPhone, but only have Windows XP PC istead of Mac OS X. The iPhone Dev Team have released the not-so-working "pwning" tool in Windows based version here. Which according to iPhone Atlas here, the Pwnage tool is still buggy and doesn't yet support the pre-release build of iPhone firmware 2.0. Nevertheless, it is still good for jail-breaking firmware files for your iPhone anyway.

Google prepares web gadget for iGoogle

The huge Web 2.0 Expo has just hit San Francisco this Tuesday, which will bring many exciting new web services to our digital life. One from many software developers, who specialized themselves in web service and applications, is certainly the giant web search engine: Google. To be exact the news came from iGoogle developer, the lead product manager Jessica Ewing has just announced the availability of special Google web code recipe for iGoogle.

Even though the code is first meant to be use in iGoogle, where it'll be available later as a left handed region in the iGoogle web page that let users navigate more quickly through list of gadgets. The aim is bigger than that, I'll quote on what Ewing has said: "For example, with the features, somebody using a Pac Man game gadget could both expand the game to full-screen size and, when not playing, use OpenSocial's notification abilities to hear when a friend beat the high score".

Sounds very interesting isn't it, and especially for those who love to do social networking. But we all must wait a bit more longer, since this technology is still being brewed in iGoogle developer team's kitchen before arrive at consumers plate. Hope they'll make it available for mobile-optimized web browser too.

If you can't wait, jump to Google Codde Blog web page here, or dig in deeper for this news at Webware here. In the meantime, you can enjoy this short video demo below.

Get a better mySpace for your iPhone

This one is for you who are so addicted to mySpace, but hate it when you wish to access your account from iPhone. The currently available access that's official is through mySpace mobile-optimised web version, which is a stripped down from its normal desktop/laptop web access. And usually the features are mostly cut out too, not to mention mySpace just cramp the normal user interface to mobile small screens.

Lucky for you iPhone owners, because Jake Marsh has been working on his small project to bring the true mySpace experience into iPhone. He's copying the Facebook's application user interface that's specially designed for iPhone, and add those missing features like:

  • taking musics
  • lets you run the tracks right from the iPhone (previously can't be done because iPhone doesn't have Flash support)
  • easier way to subscribe to people's newsfeeds
  • photo viewer
  • browse the whole photos album

Interested? The application is still in the process though, but Marsh has told Josh Lowensohn (Webware) that it'll be ready in late August this year; just cross your fingers for this one. Check out the video demo below, which Marsh has readied to tease us all.
