Following on ScummVM
Following on Neil S. Patrick's post on ScummVM, I decided to do a bit of research. In addition to being a lazy gamer, I am also an oldskool gamer. I of course like to play new games, with new graphics, as long as the VGA cards of my two laptops permit. I, however, do have a soft spot on old DOS games. I still play DOS games until today, right from the oldest DOS games I have ever played, Digger and Frogger, to newer ones like Ravenloft: Stone Prophet and Druid: Daemons of the Mind. Just like Neil, I, too, like DOS adventure games like King's Quest series, Police Quest series, Quest for Glory series, Space Quest series, etc. Gosh, I feel old...
Anyway, in the past, that is more than two years ago before I had this O2 Xda IIi PDA Phone, I actually had tried ScummVM on my laptop. I liked it that time, but I prefer (and still do prefer until this day) using DOSBox and/or VDMSound instead to play DOS games. Well, VDMSound project is no longer active, so my main DOS emulator is DOSBox now. Of course under Linux I have one more option, which is DOSEMU, but since it is not really intended for gaming, I still prefer DOSBox over it. Of course if you stretch it further you can go on and on about virtualization such as setting VMWare or InnoTek VirtualBox to setup DOS environment, or even go as far as actually buying old machine and install DOS on it. But what if you want to play DOS games on PDA?
(Pocket) Scumm mentioned by Neil is of course very interesting. I will definitely try it later on my PDA (as well as upgrade the PC version since I have not touched it for more than two years now), but I am interested to see if DOSBox has a Pocket PC version. I did a bit of googling, and found this Pocket DOSBox. I see that the DOSBox version used is a bit old (the current DOSBox version is 0.72), and the webpage is almost 3 years old, but anyway I have downloaded the file and will try it. I will let you know the outcome later (maybe tomorrow or on Monday, since I rather have a tight schedule these days), but in the meantime of course you can try it yourself if you are interested.
Note: In addition, I found PocketDOS, but that one is not free, so I think I'll try the Pocket DOSBox first.
