Clocking your Palm

I've been overclocking my Palm for many years, since my Palm IIIx and I never bricked a Palm. Right now I have Treo 650 and about two years now I've been working the processor at 507 MHz. I now don't overclock the whole system and just some apps, like the launcher, and quick apps (contacts, datebook, etc..) and some very slow ones like PhotosHQ. I did it this way, because I had scary episode a year ago. One day I was streaming radio with pockettunes, I had Verichat on, Versamail getting mail, and me surfing with Blazer. I had noticed that the back of my six fifty was a bit hotter than usually but then I got a crash. Now, like I said before, I just put the ones that I run threw fast. You can also downclock to save battery.

Anyway, I have been testing out some overclocking apps and I noticed something funny. I tried out Lightspeed 3 at 520 Mhz and I tested the processor with Speedy 6.4 (you have to clock the Speedy app) and it gives me 395 MHz real speed (this is with my palm system alarms and notifications working in the background). With Pxa Clocker I get better results, at 506 MHz which seems slower, Speedy says that my Palm is 423 MHz. So I guess Pxa clocker looks slow but indeed is faster.

You can get the new version of Speedy that just came out. which has some PocketPC references and Pxa Clocker is free to use also, you just have to turn it on manually after a reboot. If any one wants Lightspeed:  http://www.clievideo.com/
