[From Mike Barr] I’ve had numerous hand-held devices over the years, from the Psion 5 to multiple Sony Clies. My current handheld is a Tapwave Zodiac that I purchased still in the shrink-wrap a few months ago. While I have used these devices extensively for work-related purposes, they invariably spend a great deal of time as a game machine while waiting for meetings, waiting in a line, or just killing time. And why not? Palm as a gaming platform has several advantages for the “office gamer”:
You can look extremely busy playing Bejeweled if you have a serious expression on your face. Try that on a Nintendo DS.
You can instantly switch to an application like Docs-To-Go if the boss is coming your way. You’re out of luck on a PSP.
With most Palm games and emulators, a simple push of the power button suspends your game without draining your battery. Push it again, you’re ready to go, right were you left off. I’m not aware of any other current gaming device that does this.
So until Sony or Nintendo come up with an instant-on device that’s great at “looking busy”, it’s Palm all the way for me.
