"Why get an iPhone?"

[From Richard A MacKinnon] Like thousands of others across the UK, I was excited to see the iPhone finally being launched here yesterday. But... I didn't buy one. Friends and family were amazed... "But you're such an Apple fanboy - we were sure you would be at the front of the line, credit card in hand!" Well, yes and no.
I'm a Treo 680 man and never have the device out of my sight. It's my electronic brain and I would be lost without it. Like the iPhone, it's 2G. Like the iPhone it contains all my calendars, contacts, tasks and other important information. Why would I upgrade? I was finding it hard to come up with concrete rational reasons. What else can both devices do? Well, there's music.
But I don't use my Treo for music. I have a perfectly good iPod Touch for that. Aha! Eureka. After some thought, I realised that I was lusting after the iPhone's interface, not the phone per se. Now I have the (amazing) iPod Touch, that craving has been satisfied, and I can continue past the iPhone display with ease. Sort of. It's never really easy to walk past on of Apple's incredible window displays.
As for the iPod, compared to my old nano it's like something from the future. Slick, responsive, sharp screen and wonderful battery life. I'm perhaps in the minority of visitors to this site who keep phone and music player separate, despite all a Treo can do in this department. But I think I'm getting the best of both worlds: an excellent phone that meets all my needs (and more!) and a fantastic music device. But who knows, by the time the next iPhone comes out (please make it 3G!) I might be in the market. Right now? It's Treo all the way!!__________________________
