How Im using my treo

at the moment im using my treo to stream music wirelessly to my bluetooth speakers. I love it because we can go to the beach, park, or my balcony and all i need is my treo and my bluetooth speakers to have a mini party. Double A batteries or a an outlet keep my music tunes pumping throughout the day. Wish they had these around when we would have senior ditch school days :) .

Proporta Alu-Leather Cases for iPhone

Resizeimagephp
Proporta has sent me two of their Alu-leather cases for the iPhone. The one on the left is the new Sheepskin case and can be found here for $34.95. It comes in pink and brown.

The one on the right is their standard Alu-leather case and can be found here for for $34.95. The major difference between the cases seems to be the leather. The sheepskin case is softer to the touch and feels better in the hand.

Both cases flip open from the top and have a compartment that will hold a credit card or a few business cards. The slip-in holders look insecure, but in practice the iPhone is not going anywhere. They hold nice and tight. Of course, the front cover has a solid, thick sheet of aluminum which will protect the iPhone from just about anything.

Both cases have a magnetic snap holder and the edges slightly overlap the sides of the iPhone. This will give nice protection if the iPhone falls and drops on its side. Also, both cases have a optional belt clip that can be attached to a holder that can screw into the case. This is my only complaint. The belt clip is thick and sticks out quite a ways from your belt, leaving the phone sort of hanging there. I would suggest that Proporta go to a thinner clip that hugs your side a bit more. Other than this, the cases provide excellent protection and you should certainly consider them in your case searches. If you are like me, you'll have 5 or 6 different cases anyway. Add the Proporta to your stable. (I'm so sick of black that even though I'm a guy I'm going to be using the pink case. It also makes the phone pretty easy to find when you put it down!)

Access Linux Platform (ALP) First Thoughts

Ed at Brighthand gives first thoughts to ALP. "Like its rival being developed by Palm, Inc., ALP (Access Linux Platform) is a Linux-based operating system for smartphones capable of running Palm OS applications. Access Systems (formerly PalmSource) is in the process of trying to drum up interest among potential ALP licensees, and couple of people from the company -- Albert Chu and Brian Purdy -- gave me a demonstration. To me, the most important feature in this operating system is its compatibility with legacy Palm OS applications. Access has built a compatibility engine called GHost into ALP that handles this task."

TamsPalm writes about trying to get the Sony Clie organiser on a Palm device such as the Tungsten TX

TamsPalm writes about trying to get the Sony Clie organiser on a Palm device such as the Tungsten TX. "Sony wrote this PIM management app for one of his latest Palm PDAs: the TH55. The program has singularly features, for example you can write handwritten notes or put photos into the calendar. You can find some good screenshots here. Of course, a lot of people tried to get it working on other PDAs. There are some discussions on 1src where you can find manuals how to get it working on older Sony Clie PDAs, but nobody managed it to get it completely working on Palm PDAs (only very small parts of it - unusable). Some days ago Dmitry Grinberg, “software engineer and hacker”, found a way to use the application on his T|X. According to him, he had to patch some files and write new libraries."

Why I'm sticking with my Treo 680 [for the time being]

Good evening Palmaddict readers. Just to give you an update on the Blackberry Curve and the Treo 680 debate well its still very undecided but I do find that I'm still using my 680. There are just too many programs that I'm finding myself using and there are not as many for the Blackberry. However the hardware for the Blackberry is wonderful I love design of my Curve and at the same time the battery life of the Curve is pretty awesome. But back to the Treo its too valuable at the moment to give up and I think there are too many good programs for me to give up. So for the moment the Treo 680 it is but please Palm let's see some exciting and innovative developments before we all lose patience and start using other devices. I think if it wasn't for the lack of programs for the Blackberry I'd be using the Curve by now but I'm not I'm still using my Treo 680 as it has been both good to me and reliable, that coupled with the fact there are tons of programs for it makes me stick to the Treo 680. [Sent and posted via my Treo 680]

PalmMac has done a review of FreeRange for Palm

PalmMac has done a review of FreeRange for Palm. "I've been using this RSS Reader on my Curve and it's quite good...not quite as good as Viigo although it is more fully featured...and noticed that a version is available for Palm. As such, I gave it a go. First thing to mention is that you can set up your account online and import OPML files to save time. All very smooth. You then install the app on your internet enabled palm device, enter your account details and it downloads all the rest for you."

Your Web Everywhere: Opera Mini 4 hits the streets

[From Bjorn] Opera, the only company that puts the Web on any device, today released Opera Mini™ 4, the newest version of Opera's worldwide mobile browsing sensation. Opera Mini 4 inspires the senses with its stunning desktop overview mode, so users see the page exactly as it appears on their computers. People can then use the intuitive Opera Zoom™ to fly into the page and access the content you want. Or they can select Opera's Small Screen Rendering™ to eliminate horizontal scrolling.

Opera Mini 4 is a free download, over the air, to your phone from www.operamini.com

Opera Mini brings the full Web, your favorite Web sites and services, to almost every mobile phone. Opera Mini also automatically reduces the size of the transferred pages, so Web sites load faster while reducing the cost of surfing.

Opera Mini 4 supports Opera Link. Opera Link is a new platform for synchronizing your online life across any device that runs an Opera browser - or any browser that can access Opera's social network, My Opera. Opera Link instantly and effortlessly synchronizes bookmarks and Opera Speed Dial so that your information goes wherever users go.

"Two years ago, we introduced Opera Mini to the world because we wanted to bring the Web to users everywhere. Today, Opera Mini is the world’s most popular mobile browser", says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera. "As a result, the mobile Web is now a mass phenomenon. Opera Mini 4 raises the bar for user-friendly access to the Web on any mobile phone, anywhere in the world."

We've had a lot of help from the community to get us ready to release Opera Mini 4 to the world," says Oleg Tukh, product manager for Opera Mini. "Now that it's ready and free to download, anyone can discover the beauty of Opera Mini and enjoy the best Web experience available on almost any regular mobile phone. We're excited to share this with everyone."

Worldwide growth
Opera Mini is the world's most popular mobile Web browser, with 26 million cumulative users viewing more than one billion Web pages per month. Opera Mini has seen user growth skyrocket in the past 12 months as more of the world's population browses the Web with mobile devices.

Opera Mini offers a superior browsing experience to other mobile browsers. In some locations where wired infrastructure is limited or Web access by computer is restricted or expensive, Opera Mini is the only application to bring the Web to millions everyday.

Fans speak out
"I love Opera Mini. It truly gives me seamless access to the Internet on the go, hassle free," says Kaushik Mohan, an Opera Mini user in Bangalore, India. "Security, reliability, innovation and cost effectiveness Opera Mini gives me all I need. It's addictive and it's brilliant"

"The Internet exactly as you know it - right in the very palm of your hand," says Melissa Brophy, an Opera Mini user from Johannesburg, South Africa. "What you see on a computer screen is what you get on your mobile. How much cooler can it get?"

"I like the new Opera Mini 4 for its Opera Link support," says Ryan Octavianus, who uses Opera Mini in Bandung, Indonesia. "I think Opera has done it. I can bring my bookmarks and Speed Dial everywhere, especially using Opera Mini on my phone. This is very cool because sometimes I bookmark pages with long URLs and I'm lazy to input it manually or search for it using Opera Mini. Having synchronised bookmarks and Speed Dial makes my life easier."

"I can read blogs and leave comments, check my e-mail and RSS, download files and many many other things far and wide at any time," says Oleg Tarasov, an Opera Mini user in Tambov, Russia. "Opera Mini is one groundbreaking technology that ensures the real Internet is accessed by practically everyone with any mobile phone. The Opera Mini start page is also very useful - it's like a mini portal, showing your search field, recently visited pages, bookmarks etc. Opera Mini 4 also reduces the cost of data traffic up to 10 times! That's why I love my Opera Mini browser."
