New Palm OS 2 Foleo thoughts
We all could foresee a little bit of the devices the halted old Foleo was up against.
The XO / O.L.P.C. - 100$ laptop, the Asus ASUS EeePC – 200$ laptop, etc..
Indeed a good decision it was to stop it before it could damage Palm Inc too severely and to focus on the Palm OS 2 for now. But what after Palm OS 2 has finished ?
Well you'll have – let's hope so – a good platform for building both small handhelds as carry-comps. (or laptops if you prefer) . Then it's time to fill in the functionalities.
Just give us what we need in such a thing a small Foleo with bluetooth, WiFi b/g/n, a 5+ hours lifetime. Did i forget a build in mobile/GSM-carrier free for Push and Pull emailing and GPS functionality?
Combine the linux Os side – availability of OpenOffice etc ... and the possibility to include third party programs in a flash – with the older Palm OS side. An easy Palm-Way interface to make the operational things a secondary issue and using the thing a primary goal.
The main communication standpoint: do NOT try to convince us (again?) that's it's only a LIMITED device. Let's say it's a COMPLETE PACKAGE with a FAST & SIMPLE ZEN INTERFACE. This is what the business guy/lady is interested in. Doing their business on the go with every possibility-technology, not the art of interfacing or customizing their Palm device.
A last thought: Nowadays it's all in the combination of a plethora of details, small successful ones that can make a product shine or dreadfully fall. And we know how Palm is good in details, let's hope for the best! The old Foleo was like a little green apple, let it grow now and it will be ripening into a tasty bite.
