[From Blaine Cross] After several months without it, I'm finally able to sync my Sony Clie TJ-37 with all of my desktop PC files, including Outlook and Word to Go. My troubles began when my company changed almost everything about my desktop PC environment -- new desktop, new servers, new Outlook system, new policies, and much more recently. Some of this was good, but the bad news was harsh -- due to security restrictions, no more "admin" permissions for me. After much research and wrangling, I realized this meant that my Sony could no longer Hotsync with the desktop. Nothing worked. I tried convincing Help Desk to change my permissions. No go -- security dictated these changes. I tried reconfiguring the Palm software. Zilch -- it wouldn't connect. I begged the corporate Help Desk to change my permissions for just this. Uh uh -- they wouldn't help with a Palm-related problem, and would only support Windows Mobile. I was ready to just give up. Then I stumbled across this wiki page "Palm Desktop Troubleshooting Notes", and specifically, Tips for installing Palm desktop for non-admin users . Finally! This was my solution. I was able to convince our Help Desk to give me temporary "admin" rights, and then I reinstalled the Palm software in my own "Documents & settings\[username]\Palm\" directory, rather than in the default "Program Files" directory. This works! I could sync again. Even after reverting to my "non-admin" permissions, I can sync everything again. So if anyone gets stuck behind corporate permission policies, give this solution a try.
