DST Updater - Major Problem?

[From Tom ] Sammy, Have just had a "major" with my Treo 680 apparently caused by installing the Palm DST Updater, and thought your readers should be alerted as I have so far seen nothing about it on your Forum or the other boards.
Two days ago I downloaded and installed the DST updater as urged by Palm and others. I even backed up my calendar data as suggested by the Palm support/download website before doing so.
The next hotsync after downloading it (when the DST updater was installing) was a fustercluck that went on (I now see on the hotsync log) for some 13 minutes, and when it was all done my contact data on both the 680 and Palm Desktop was seriously messed up. Many of the records were missing. It appears that a bunch of "-unnamed-" blank records (with only a blank birthday fields appearing) were somehow added to the contact data base -- so many that the hotsync generated a "too many records" error during the hotsync and losing, in the process, most of my contact database.
Luckily, I also did a backup on the Contact data not too long ago so I will be able to resurrect most of it.
After going online with Palm to get advice, they sent me to the call support line (call center in the Phillipines) who, after going up to "level three" said, sorry, the only solution is a hard reset. And most of your readers will know what that entails, and all the work thereafter to recover.
Needless to say I am not amused, and wanted to alert your readers so they can avoid this DST updater unless they are sure they need it, and if so that they are very, very careful with how they go about it, and (b) to ask that any of your readers who have had similar problems/solutions via to share them via your forum.
