Applications I'd Like to See (Improved)

[From Antoine of MMM (Laurel, MD, USA)] I was just reading the post talking about applications that he/she would like to see (I was on RSS and so there was no by-line) and thought that it was an interesting enough angle that I'd write in something similar.

Being that I am a person who uses his Treo 680 all the time (its replaced my desktop for most things), there are some aspects of it that could use some considerable improvement. And while I will not bore you all with listing everything, I will concentrate on the web browser and where I think some applications could come in to improve it considerably.

My thoughts center around having a mobile browser on the Treo that is similar to Firefox and others in that it can accept plugins in order to increase the functionalIty. I think that in its current 680 mode, Blazer is just good enough. But if it were a browser that accepted plugins it would be much better.

Here are some ideas for plugins that I'd like to see:
- an RSS plugin that would download feeds and store them as additional bookmark and for offline viewing
- a vCard/vCal plugin that would be able to take highlighed text and export it into your contacts or calendar right off of a webpage
- a "send this" plugin that would enable you to take a picture or snippet of text from a page and then email it (or blog it if you can email to your blog); and the option of exporting to your memo pad as if it were a journal type entry
- a map plugin that would take an address from your addreess book and go directly to Mapquest/Google Maps/Yahoo Maps/Windows Live Maps and give you the small map of the address
- a search plugin that would take a highlighted item, or just bring up a small search box (SIP) and then you type into it something to search and it goes right to a search engine of your choosing with that term searched
- and lastly an "export history" plugin that would export to memos or to an email a list of links that you gathered (think, save 3-7 links on a clipboard and then email them)

I have a few more ideas, but as I use my Treo more and more online. I wonder about ways that the browser can be improved in terms of functionality, not just what I can see. Sure, Flash and betteer JavaScript suppoprt would be great, but if Blazer (or Universe, or any Garnet OS browser) could help me better use the information that I need, then I could truely be mobile with my Treo, and there would be no mobile compromises - except how long the battery would go.
