Hi All! It’s been far too long since I last posted (Too many deadlines, taking on too many projects, a demanding 5 year old), but hopefully that will have passed soon. I also hope you enjoy my review of “Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars” for Windows Mobile 5.0 from Astraware! Many Thanks to Alison and Sammy for being patient with me during these extenuating circumstances! (A Palm version of the game is also available)
First, you MUST have a MiniSD card in order to play the game. The download is very large because in fact this is a direct port of the original PC game Circle of Blood! I can now say that I have played all versions of this game, and this version is fantastic! The artwork, the speech, the music…it is all here from the original! You may need headphones to hear everything clearly but that is a minor issue.
The goal of the game is to investigate an unusual crime: A clown was seen in a café moments before a bomb went off. Our intrepid (and somewhat dense) hero George gets involved, and his travels take him to places such as Syria, Spain, and Eire (Ireland). For such a small device the artwork and detail is truly fantastic and the best feature is that this is an adventure game. You need to solve puzzles (Beware! Some are convoluted and quite difficult, not Astraware’s fault) and do so in a nonviolent way for the most part. As I warned awhile ago when I reviewed this version for the Palm OS and the Lifedrive, there are a few scenes of violence, and George can die in spots, so save often! However, the violence is part of the story and is not gratuitous at all. You will also meet Nico and an assassin, as well as some questionable men, an heiress, and dim French cops. To say more would spoil the story but if you get stuck there are walkthroughs available online.
Astraware’s customer service is nonpareil, and I have yet to be disappointed in any of their games that I reviewed. The game might seem expensive at $29.95, but you will get at least 30 hours of play out of it. Note that like a good mystery, this game is generally not replayable once you have finished it. My conclusion: I LOVED this game and the job Kieran and the other Astrawarers did here. I give it 5 stars and highly recommend it. You can find the game in PalmAddict’s store or on Astaware’s website, a Palm version of the game is also available too.
