My Palm TX and Me

[From Steven Schilling] It seems as though my Palm TX is getting more and more use from me these days. I've been a long-time user (Handspring Visor Platinum that's still in use) so it kind of surprises me that I find newer uses all the time. I guess that goes to the quality of the product and software. Here's a sampling of what I do with the TX:

1. I use a Bluetooth GPS (OnCourse SiRF Star III Bluetooth GPS Receiver, about $100) for driving and route recording. Pathaway4 from MuskokaTech allows me to make custom maps from bitmaps. KML Creator 1.0 from www.handheld-basic.com logs routes for me so I can dump it to Google Earth and do a fly though of the route.

2. Dataviz's Beyond Contacts provides me with all my Outlook data on the go. I'm using David Allen's "Getting Things Done" method for improving productivity. His article, "GTD and Outlook" is extremely helpful in setting up Outlook properly.

3. I dabble in blogging so I use the iGoT StowawayR Infrared Keyboard to write entries while I'm on a fishing or hunting trip. Beyond Contacts Notes are created and then I just cut and paste into Blogger when I get to the office. I'll probably migrate to a blogging application once I get a chance to research the offerings.

4. Slideshows and video clips are played using TCPMP. I've just started using MediaCoder (http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/) to transcode various clips.

5. I use Dataviz's Passwords Plus to keep track of and encrypt all my personal and confidential information.

6. Finally, Softick's Card Export II (www.softick.com) turns my TX's SD slot into a USB SD card reader. Works great for loading media files onto a SD card for use in a player or other device.

Those are my main uses for my TX. I'm sure I'll add a few more uses over the next few months.

Thanks to PalmAddicts for fueling my fire and helping me with researching hardware and software.
