Palm Addict Review : Splash Travel

Forum_31

Hi – I recently had the chance to try Splash Travel. from Splash Data so thanks to Kevin Doel. I have been a long time user of their other products and especially Splash ID. – which I count as an absolute must for my Treo 650.

When Splash Travel was released I jumped at that chance to try it as I was about to go on a trip to France. So I loaded it onto my Treo expansion card and off I went.

When you open the program you are struck with some beautiful graphics which also act as the launcher menu for all the tool - of which there are 15 different ones. The launcher is very bright and easy to follow and the icons look great. It has a kind of Mac OS look ( which I love ;-) )There is also a ticker that runs on the bottom to tell you about alarms coming up or current exchange rates – a useful touch.

The website says “15 must-have tools when you travel -- or anytime you have to deal with different time zones, currencies, measurements or country codes. When you are on the go, you need information at your fingertips. SplashTravel includes clocks, timers, calculators, converters, and all sorts of data that you’ll find handy while catching a flight, waiting for a train, or sitting in a cab on your way to a meeting. SplashTravel is the virtual Swiss Army knife for road warriors!

The alarm lets you set up 9 different alarm times and impressively supports Wave and Midi tones. There is a time calculator so that you can work out times in different cities – I find this usefull to know what time to call my family in the UK when in another timezone.

One of the most useful tools that I used throughout my trip was the unit converter. This allows conversion of areas, distances, lengths ,temperatures and even weights – so useful when in a foreign country. Another great tool is the check split – which will divide a restaurant (or in our case the extensive bar tab !!) between the number of people in the party.

The list function – called ‘luggage’ made my wife laugh. There is a default list of clothing items, documents, medicine and even electronics (great for all us Palm Addicts) I tapped in all the things I was going to take on my trip the day before. She was so happy that finally I was going to be organised and pack my clothes efficiently. What she did not realise was the list was all the gadgets and associated accessories I was carrying with me ;-) But I did also put down some clothes and essential travel documents.

The only down side is that it does not support the 5 way navigator for the Treo – which is sad as I have come to rely on that a lot.

So – bottom line – how did the program fair on my jaunt to France. Well ….. what can I say – this program is another winner from Splash Data. It has 15 extremely useful tools for the occasional traveller to the hardcore business traveller. I found it easy to use yet so powerful. They have crammed so much in that it has everything a traveller could require. For $19.95 – an absolute bargain.

Please take a look here.and have a go with this program – even if you are going away for the weekend – you will not be disappointed.
