CalorieKing and Diabetes log

Diabetes is sometimes called "the data disease", and I can confirm that with all certainty. For years, I have used several ways to keep track of all of my blood sugar readings, carbohydrate intake, stress, blood pressure, hemoglobin A1c readings, and even more things that can't even be mentioned in polite company!

The biggest things, though, are the blood sugar, medicine, and carb intake. I had been doing that on a spreadsheet, so I can keep track both on my Palm and PC, then I started developing a web database that I can track all this information from anywhere, but that hasn't taken off for me.

Then I read the review of CalorieKing earlier this week, and I thought that this would be really great to help count carbs. When I went to the site, I also saw their add-on for diabetes so I grabbed a copy.

I'm liking the interface for both programs. It's nice to be able to select my foods in CalorieKing, and then go into the diabets log to log medicine (I take pills), exercise, and import the carb counts from CalorieKing. It took me about two minutes without reading manuals to get going with both programs.

The solitary problem that I have with both programs is that there is not an option to export data to another format (like a Excel sheet), or e-mail, or even via HotSync. It makes it really hard to leave the data with your doctor when it cannot be exported. I have e-mailed them about this, and I hope that they will address that issue.

All in all, both programs are great for usage, really easy to add new foods and settings, and really easy to see at a glance what is going on. I'm now using these programs for daily logging, then taking some time on Sunday to transfer data to an Excel sheet for my MD. Honestly, this way gives me instant results during the day, then it forces me to plan meals for the week when I transfer the data. This has been the best week of tracking my disease in a long time.
