Sails on the Horizon

SAILS ON THE HORIZON
Dientes de Diablo, 1797

With his first historical high–seas adventure chronicling the exploits of Naval Commander Charles Edgemont, Jay Worrall sets sail in the rousing tradition of C.S. Forester and Patrick O’Brian. The year is 1797. Napoleon Buonaparte is racking up impressive wins in the field against the enemies of revolutionary France. On the seas, England is putting up a staunch resistance.

When a modest fleet of British ships off the coast of Portugal encounters a larger force of Spanish vessels on their way to rendezvous with the French, the English are quick to seize the opportunity for a victory–even at the risk of a calamitous defeat.

Twenty–five–year–old Charles Edgemont is second lieutenant aboard the HMS Argonaut, the smallest ship in the British line of battle. When orders come for the Argonaut to engage in an all–but–suicidal maneuver to cut off the escape of the Spanish ships, he leads his gun crews bravely–until the death of the captain and the first lieutenant elevates him to command of the stricken vessel. In the chaos that follows, his defiant refusal to yield under enemy fire earns him a permanent promotion.

Thanks to the purse awarded him by the Admiralty after the fight, Charles is wealthy beyond his wildest dreams. But there are challenges when he returns home after years at sea. His newfound riches will prove no help when it comes to winning the heart of Penelope Brown, the feisty Quaker with whom Charles falls in love. Even more of a hindrance is his profession, for Penelope regards war as sinful and soldiers as little better than murderers.

Changing Penelope’s mind may just be the hardest battle Charles has ever fought–at least until fresh orders send him back to sea, where he faces a more traditional and equally formidable adversary in a series of stirring battles of will and might.

THE SHADOWS OF HISTORY ARE THEIR HOME.
THE BLOOD OF HUMANS IS THEIR SUSTENANCE.
NOW THE FUTURE BELONGS TO THEM....

It began at the dawn of history, when a darkness rose from deep within an Egyptian tomb. For thousands of years -- long before earth was plunged into an intergalactic battle for its survival -- four deathless creatures sowed seeds of destruction and chaos. Surviving on the spilled blood of warriors and innocents from ancient Greece to the ashes of Nazi Germany, the creatures have played a role in conflicts great and small.

Now, bound by their common ancestry, separated by their own devious ambitions, and armed with mankind's own modern tools of destruction, the deathless ones know that their time has come -- and they have been called together by one brilliant leader. His name is Nosferatu. His vision is to become a god on earth. His ultimate weapon will be a Holy Grail, a force that no mortal man can defeat... but his deadliest enemy may be one of his own....

Big Box of Blox

I gave Big Box of Blox a try this week and yes very much enjoyed this game. Not sure what I expected when I first started playing it but it ended up that I enjoyed playing the game. Give it a go if you've not tried. "Big Box of Blox is a block stacking game taken to outrageous extremes! Using stylus or button controls, arrange the three-blox-high stacks as they fall. Match blox in groups of three or more, vertically or horizontally, to eliminate them - but that's not all!"

Acid Solitaire was something that caught my eye on Astraware today. "Leaping off the screen as you quickly tap each card, the cards effortlessly fly across your Palm as you try to win another game of Acid Solitaire. As cards are moved to the home cells, you uncover your background image. You can select a built-in image or create your own background. Intuitive Jog-Dial and 5-way navigator game play makes it easy to play single-handedly. [From Adrian Rosam] Adrian this was funny and thank you for sending the link in, Ten signs you're tech obsessed. "Funny to think now how it all started so innocently. Am I and technology more than just friends? And so it is, in the spirit of corny relationship advice everywhere, that we point out the signs that reveal if you are too close to your technology."
