I was excited following the news that MantraGroup has released mobiVoIP. It's one area that is really missing for PalmOS - the lack of a good VOIP program. Now that the newer Treos support high speed data access, and there are Wifi enabled Palms like the Lifedrive, there is a market for a Palm VOIP solution.
However I was disappointed to find out that although MobiVoip is free, there is no way one can test out the software as you have to subscribe first. Surely Mantragroup must realise that if one is unsure of the product quality, one might be hesitant to subscribe.
It's a great pity that Skype has not supported the Palm platform - they are missing out on a big chunk of potential subscribers. At least we get to try out Skype before investing in their paid options. Perhaps MantraGroup might want to rethink their business model. Perhaps pre-paid credits like one buys for Skypeout rather than a regular subscription would tempt more into their program. And make sure the Demo works! No free demo, no sale for me.
