Hotsyncing Woes

Well, I got a refurbished Tungsten T3 from PDAparts.com
and it arrived Wednesday. I waited for the UPS guy all morning in great anticipation! I watched the windows like a hawk and when I was in here on the computer, I listened very carefully for that tell tale rumble of the UPS truck. It finally arrived and I ripped open the package and feasted my eyes on the beautiful piece of art before me; a shiny Palm Tungsten T3! I'd never even seen one in person before; only the pictures on the internet. Wow, what a cool looking device! I got no software CD with the device but I knew that I could get it from Palm's website. Well, the device was already set up and charged and it seemed to work great! I wasn't quite sure how to go about putting the device on my computer since I already had 3 Palms on it; all running off the TX Palm Desktop software. I thought that maybe the T3 might run okay since the Tungsten C runs just fine hotsyncing with the newer Palm Desktop version. So I hooked up the cradle and power plug and sat the T3 in its cradle and attempted to hotsync. The hotsync began and then stopped. An error popped up saying that the conncection had been lost. The device in the cradle said that it was syncing though. I clicked cancel on the device and then took the device out of the cradle and checked the connections. I put it back in the cradle and tried again. No luck. I got the same error. So I did a soft reset on the device and tried again but no luck. I checked the connections again and checked the hotsync manager connections and everything was as it should be. I think I started all this at around 1:30pm on Wednesday. Well, I continued trying to get it to work all afternoon. I did several hard resets and still no go. I rebooted my computer umpteen times also. I removed all Palm programs from my desktop computer and then made a new user account and downloaded the Tungsten T3 Palm Desktop software on that account. The T3 STILL wouldn't hotsync! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! It was really getting old! My husband started helping me with the problem around 5:30pm. We both read on several forums about hotsyncing problems and tried to find the solution. We worked and worked. At 9pm, we stopped and watched the finale of "Lost" and then watched "Invasion's" finale at 10.
At 11pm, we came back in here and started working on the hotsync problem again. We worked on it all night long and through the early morning hours. Finally, at about 6am, Barry tried hotsyncing it on his computer and it worked. I had asked him several times to try that but he kept saying that something was screwy on the back of his computer and he didn't want to mess around back there and mess it up for good. Well, we were happy that it worked on his computer! But he didn't want it over there with his stuff, so he was determined to find the solution on my computer. I had read on a forum(don't remember which one since I read a crap load of threads!) that some people couldn't get their device to hotsync because they were using a USB hub and not the original USB port on the back of their computer. I mentioned that to Barry, plus the fact that my computer doesn't have a 2.0 USB port. But that doesn't seem to matter with my other Palms and they are all connected through my 7 port USB hub and work great that way. Well, I was very tired and got in the shower. When I got out, I came back in here and Barry had the T3 working on my computer!!!!! He had unplugged our printer from the USB port on the back of my computer and plugged it into the 7 port hub and then plugged in the T3 into the printer's former slot. That was the only available USB port on my computer since my mouse is using the other one. So we finally solved the stupid problem!!!!!! It sure took loooooooooong enough! I was really getting worried that I had bought a lemon for a little bit. But after reading so many similar incidents on Palm forums, I knew that it must be a common problem and wasn't the device itself! What a relief! Thanks to fellow writer Holvoetn for trying to help me out over at the Brighthand forum!!!! I went over there in search of help because when I got my first Palm, I had read so many helpful threads over there! You can find an answer to just about any problem on a Palm device there!
So anyway, that's how I spent my Wednesday. After I finally got the T3 set up and hotsynced, I was too exhausted to put any apps on it! I went to bed and Insomnia didn't even show her face! She knew that she didn't have a snowball's chance in hades of keeping me awake that day! HaHaHa!! I slept like a baby until the late in the night. And of course because of that, here I am wide awake at 4:30am on this Friday morning! Barry is in here too; he's playing his favorite online game. All three cats are in here with us and they're all napping. Charlie is asleep with his head on my foot under my desk. He always wants to be close to me!
I really like the T3! It feels very heavy and solid and your hand. I like the slider design and how it opens up to reveal that big screen. I've gotten so used to having a big screen on my LifeDrive and TX. I noticed that the T3 screen isn't quite as bright as the other two. The white on it is slightly dingy looking compared to the brighter screens on the LD and TX. The T3 is fast and has lots of memory. I love the spring loaded stylus that is just like the one for the LD! So far, that is the best stylus I've ever used! I love the matte silver finish on the casing because it looks nice and doesn't show finger prints! I've said before how I can't stand to see fingerprints on my devices and I'm continuously wiping them down. I can see why so many people who own T3s are so impressed with them!
Have a great Palm day everyone!!!!!
