I’ve taken a closer look at Mobile TS from DDH Software, a remote control program for Palm os. I’ve tried it on both my LD and my Treo 650.
I first tried it on my LD. The setup is really simply (if you’ve set up the remote control for XP before you start). Just punch in the name of the computer and the ip and roll.
The login windows appeared (though, it was pretty hard to enter the login and password because I have XP tablet os, and therefore an enormous virtual keyboard appeared), and the login went smoothly. When I was logged in I could use my XP as normal, and the update speed over Wifi was rather good. I had some problems with the higher solutions, but David at DDH told me that you had to be aware that you were connected to the Wifi network before you started MobileTS, and it worked like a charm when I tried this.
The usability on my LD was really nice, because of the large screen on the LD and the speed the Wifi connection supplied me with.
If you need to access your home computer (or another computer) from a remote location, this is a really good solution. I missed the option to download files though, which can be a very useful when you’re in desperate need of a file that happens to be on your home computer.
Then I tried the software on my Treo650. Setup was as simple as it was at the LD. It didn’t load as smoothly as the LD did (due to bandwidth limitations (I used GPRS)), but the speed was rather impressing nonetheless. The simplicity and impression was the same as on the LD, except the fact that the 320x320 screen is really small when it comes to navigating XP. Well, that's the price you gotta pay for the keyboard. =)
The software worked great on my Treo650 and my LD. So, who could use this program? I do some it consultant jobs, and I know how handy remote desktop can be, so now I can remote assist on the go! So, IT professionals is the primary target group of this software in my opinion.
But also you who are blessed (or cursed. I often feel that way..) with one computer or more can use this software. Say you are at a client or friend or whatever, and you desperately need some information that is stored on your computer. Simply start Mobile TS and connect. As easy as it gets.
