BackupBuddy.Net in public beta
BlueNomad, maker of my favorite backup program BackupBuddyVFS have announced a public beta for BackupBuddy.Net. Here is a snippet of the official press release:
Things have been quiet here lately as we've been working very hard on our next generation of mobile backup technology. Well today, we're very excited to be able to share with you what's been keeping us so busy: BackupBuddy.Net.BackupBuddy.Net allows you to wireless backup their your Treo smartphone over the Internet to one of our servers. It is extremely secure: all your data is encrypted end-to-end (with AES encryption) and stored in an encrypted form - we absolutely cannot access your data, and we don't even store your password. It is also extremely fast: your data as highly compressed as it is being sent over the air and device backups (and restores) happen quickly so as to not slow you down when you're on-the-go.
One of the features that we think is super-sexy is our Trickle BackupTM feature. Trickle Backup allows BackupBuddy.Net to transparently and continuously backup all your files to our server when you're not actively using your Treo. It is designed to stay completely out of your way and not interfere with the use of your Treo.
Our initial release of BackupBuddy.Net backs up only essential PIM files: Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Memos. A subsequent release (Professional Edition) will add backup of the entire device. BackupBuddy.Net is a subscription service - pricing has yet to be determined.
I have been one of the private beta testers of this program and found that it worked just fine. Obviously there are other crucial things which we would want backed up, but they have started at a good place.
I am still looking for a non-subscription program which will let me backup to my own FTP server (preferably SFTP). Anyone know of one? If so please post it this thread on the forum.
