X Versus Y?

Earlier, while perusing the Forum, a topic question posed by todflog1 immediately caught my eye. VOTE! Palm Usage Male Vs. Female. I had to check in and see how PA readers felt about this. I was pleased to see many of my fellow Palm Addictettes had already given “us girls” good representation. And I was not surprised that many of the responses, regardless of the authors' genders, tended to disregard X's and Y's as a predisposing factor of PDA use, though this is clearly an enlightened group, and probably isn't indicative of the views of the population in general.

In my work as a dental office manager, I schedule many appointments for our patients. I am always on the lookout for the people who produce PDA's to record their appointment times and I have made several observations.

* In the 3 years that I have worked there, I am definitely seeing more and more people with PDA's. That's a GOOD thing.

* I have noticed that *most* of the PDA's I see are Palm O.S. (I'd say 75% or more.) Another GOOD thing!

* More men than women carry PDA's to schedule their appointments, though the number of women has definitely increased since I've been there. Also a GOOD thing!

* My last observation is that the men who use PDA's usually have the top of the line models, including a high proportion of Treo650's. The women, on the other hand, almost always have Tungsten E's or an older version of Palm that was most likely a hand-me-down from her (undoubtedly) Treo-wielding husband.

It is slightly disheartening for me, a full fledged Palm Addictette, to see that, at least in my small circle of association, the male PDA users have new powerful machines, while their wives get their cast-offs. On the other hand, (or should I say “on the other 'Palm?'”) any working PDA is a GOOD thing, and I wouldn’t be surprised if many of those women with entry level or hand-me-down machines, catch the magic of Palms and never look back! GO GADGET GIRLS!

I'd love to read more opinions! Check out the thread here.
