More screens of ALP prototype in action - now we are talking and something to get excited about

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in, eric m, Paul Hayes, Chris X, dr64 and PJ and the emails are strill coming in] Engadget via Mobile Review are reporting that after being teased by shots of Access PalmSource's new Access Linux Platform OS running the Memo app in emulation last week, we've finally got some screens of the rest of the OS. This is, of course, an early prototype, so a lot can change between now and the final release. It does seem, though, that they're coming along well, and the source article claims a developer SDK will be out before the end of the year

The 5th Horseman

The_5th_horseman
A young mother is recuperating in a San Francisco hospital when she is suddenly gasping for breath. The call button fails to bring help in time. The hospital’s doctors, some of the best in the nation, are completely mystified by her death. How did this happen?

APOCALYPSE NEARS.

This is not the first such case at the hospital. Just as patients are about to be released with a clean bill of health, their conditions take a devastating turn for the worse.

Accompanied by the newest member of the Women’s Murder Club, Yuki Castellano, Lieutenant Lindsay Boxer probes deeper into the incidents. Could these cases just be appalling coincidences? Or is a maniac playing God with people’s lives? When someone close to the Women’s Murder Club begins to exhibit the same frightening symptoms, Lindsay fears no one is safe.

Datebk 6 Preview b is out

[From Ruben, Buenos Aires, Argentina] The pB preview has now been posted here

There's quite a lot of new stuff in this version as I had been hoping to get this out a week or more ago. As a consequence, there may well be more bugs here than usual from all the changes, but most likely (and hopefully!), they would be cosmetic. Remember to always do a good backup before installing any new release and to be especially vigilant in doing backups until we have some history with the new release.

This release includes NEW plug-ins which must replace all existing plug-ins to work. There is a new installer which will only find plug-ins in the new format. Simon has already updated 4cast and I've included his trial plug-in in the zip download (with his permission). It should also be now on his website. Be sure to install the new VersaMail plug-in as well if you use that.

You WILL need to go into View display Options in the Today view, tap on the selector at the screen top and reconfigure the plug-ins. There are 3 usable plug-in slots which you can tap and when you do that, DateBk6 will display a list of all available plug-ins that you can select to put in that slot. Note that when you select a plug-in, a configuration/option screen MAY appear if the plug-in has configurable options. In this case, 4Cast now has an option to display more information on two lines.

The phases of the moon feature is not done as a plug-in because I was spending a vast amount of time trying to unhook the use of existing code in DateBk6 and it was becoming non-productive to do that when my time is so tight. Perhaps later I'll do that as it really should be a plug-in (I'm rather hoping that some programmer with more time on their hands writes a better version which includes popping up a month display showing the phases on each day, etc. - clearly it can be improved!).

The Insert Template/New Journal functions are now available in all views (except the yearly view), and the "silence until" feature now includes a date selector as well as a time selector (so you can silence alarms to any future date and time).

The All ITems to Memopad feature has two new metatags to automatically add durations and dollar amounts for both appointments as well as ToDo's - something that has been asked for for some time by people who use this feature (so you can have a template for a service call that automatically adds $50 for example).

As always, let me know if you find any "show-stoppers" on this release. I will also be adding a DateBk6.htm web page shortly with information about the new release, as it is getting closer to the time for the official release. Again, I apologize for still not having worked on some issues relating to the use of small/tiny fonts on Sony Clie's, but that is now high on the agenda for the next preview. I"m also now starting work on all the documentation.

Rikaline 6033 Bluetooth GPS

I have been wanting a Bluetooth GPS for some time now. Well, my wife asked me what I wanted for our 7 Year Anniversary, and I told her I wanted a BT GPS. Knowing me as well as she does, she just told me to let her know which one I wanted and where to get it. I looked at many reviews and discussion groups for information. I finally decided on one and told her that there was some good prices for it on eBay. It arrived this past Friday. It’s a Rikaline Model 6033 BT GPS. Here is a direct link to their website. After using it over the weekend with Mapopolis, I have decided that it was probably a good decision. I don’t want to make a review out of this, but I am very happy with it’s performance and features. There is a pretty good review of it here. Anyone looking for one of these should really check this manufacturer out.
