Palm Addict Profile: Kevin Agot
It’s been awhile since I did a Palm Addict Profile, so I thought while it is still a “new” year, I will start off right by giving everyone the chance to know yet another fascinating Palm Addict. Thanks again to Joshua Burdick for sharing some of his thoughts and insights in our last profile. It was a pleasure working with him, and we are all beneficiaries of his PDA knowledge and observations here on Palm Addict.
A few weeks ago I got an email with a quick message to check out a link to a picture that was intriguing, to say the least. I followed the links, and the first was to his blog, called Re:Views. The second was of the above picture! Well, I followed Einstein’s advice and sure enough! Kevin’s blog is definitely copacetic! (You probably know what copacetic means, but I had to look it up. It means “completely satisfactory, or fine.” :) I spent some time browsing his “fine” blog, and found that Kevin is not only a great Associate Writer, but he is also very intelligent and thoughtful. I found several links on his site that I have begun to visit regularly, as I continue to drop in on his. From my dealings with him, I realized he would be a perfect candidate for my next PA Profile.
As you read Kevin’s answers to the usual questions, I think you’ll agree that he’s anything but usual. So here goes, as I present Kevin Agot for this edition of our series of Palm Addict Profiles.

1. Name: Kevin Agot
2. Where do you live? Carmichael, California
3. How did you get involved with Palm Addict? I served in the Philippines for the past 15 years as a missionary. As a missionary, I oversaw a ministry of over 1,200 people spread out from the metropolis of Metro Manila to the southern, rebel-infested jungles of Mindanao to the actively volcanic, Mount Mayon. The PDA was an essential tool to ministering to as many people as possible throughout that wonderful archipelago. With my Palm in hand, I had the luxury of carrying the full roster of my membership; kept abreast of weekly-updated financial reports; kept track of my appointments and email; carried over 20 Bibles and commentaries from different eras, countries and languages; downloaded my newspapers; wrote my lessons; and stored my favorite songs. All this info and more packed into a unit that only weighed a few ounces. Since I didn’t have a car until my 13th year on the mission field, I was always carrying tons of books and Bibles in my back pack or attaché. The PDA was a godsend.
4. What do you like best about the Palm Addict community? I was initially interested in Palm Addict because of the regular contests and great prizes. Even though I’ve yet to win a contest on the site (sob!), I was attracted to the positive energy of the content and their contributors. I also liked how the site was constantly being updated throughout the day. I’ve found many great apps for my Palms by reading this site.
5. How many PDA's do you own? I have owned the Palm m505, Zire 71 and am currently armed with a Zire 72s.
6. Favorite PDA? It would be a T5 or a Lifedrive if I had one ;^)
7. What makes it your favorite? I’ll know when I get one (fingers-crossed hoping some benevolent soul will offer one!)
8. What other hobbies/passions do you have? I love most sports: American football, basketball, baseball, golf, extreme, etc. I love to read books. I get into a “genre groove” every once in a while and kick into them. For example, I may be in the mood to read biographies and end up reading that particular genre for about a year. Or, I may get into an “author kick” where I scoop up anything by a particular author’s work (past and present) and read them all. An example of this would be my fairly late entry into reading Neil Gaiman’s works. I’ve read some of his comic books but, none of his literary stuff. Once I got the bug, I bought everything I could (literal or audio) and read (or listened) to his books. My other hobby is collecting comic books. I’ve been collecting for the past 33 years. It started with my older brother’s stuff and going with my brother-in-law to the 7-11’s spinner racks and I’ve been hooked ever since. I buy about 50-60 books a month much to the chagrin of my wife and my wallet.
9. What is your favorite color? Blue all the way!
10. Favorite food? Pizza, of course!
11. What is your favorite fruit? I love eating watermelon during the summer.
12. What is your favorite candy? Nestle’s Crunch!
13. Favorite dessert? I scream for ice cream…and it’s gotta be Cold Stone’s.
14. Favorite season? Winter.
15. Are you a "morning" or an "evening" person? I’m definitely, a morning dude. When you hit my age, evening is for some good down time with family and friends.
16. If you could be an animal, what kind would you be? Sharks. Most sharks have to constantly move forward in order to survive. They must be constantly moving forward to force oxygen-enriched sea water through their gills. I’ve always been inspired by that particular analogy of moving forward for survival and how it relates to our lives.
17. Favorite places to go? San Francisco, CA…once voted the 2nd best city that tourist love to visit.
18. Favorite movies?
Akira Kurasawa's Ran
Gladiator
The Usual Suspects
Braveheart
The House of Flying Daggers
Life is Beautiful
Ying Xiong’s Hero (starring Jet Li)
Batman Begins
Amadeus
The Passion of Christ
19. Favorite book? The Bible
20. Favorite band? Too many to name…let’s just say any Old School R and B, late 70’s to early 80’s.
21. Favorite song?
For my wife:
A Filipino ballad entitled, “Mahal kita, walang iba” which translates to “I love you like no other.” This became a favorite of ours while we were dating.
For my son:
Soundgarden’s “I knew I loved you before I met you.”
22. What makes you smile? My wife’s laugh makes me smile. She has a happy, melodic laugh that pulls you in. My son, Cole when he’s just being his normal self…bouncing off the walls.
23. What's the one word or short phrase that would best describe you? That is a very hard question. A really good one! Don’t have an answer for that, yet.
24. If you could pick any 3 people (real ones) to have dinner with…alive or dead…who would they be, and why?
They would be a rather eclectic bunch:
Jesus - because of the way he’s changed my life and how he’s impacted the world whether or not people agree with his teachings or not.
Prince - because of his musical genius. If Prince isn’t available, then it’d be Wolfgang Mozart. (How’s that for sneaking in an extra choice?)
Neil Gaiman - because he tells a story like no other.

I loved Kevin’s thoughtful and thought provoking answers, and also to learn about his remarkable life. Each time I do one of these profiles, I am amazed at the outstanding people with whom we have the opportunity to associate here at Palm Addict. I have said it before, and again it proves true, that I am the lucky one to be able to get to meet and become friends with many of you through this series. Thanks Kevin!
I will be back soon, with another edition of Palm Addict Profiles. If you’d like to nominate someone or to volunteer yourself to become a future profile candidate, drop me a line! Jan.palmaddict@gmail.com.
