So far the show has just be overwhelming. It is almost frightening to even think about trying to see it all. Since my GPS stuff will really get started this evening, I thought I devote my first day to looking at the Palm booth. Above is a shot of Joe Fabris from Palm demonstrating the email functions on a new Windows Mobile Palm.
The Windows Mobile Treo is the centerpiece of the booth and everything seems to be oriented around that. This makes a lot of sense to me, because in the corporate world Windows and Outlook are the standard and a success here will give Palm a huge boost.
Here is a shot of the front of the booth, again highlighting Windows Mobile
Palm has a lot of "associates" exhibiting on the booth and here are some shots and comments:
Astraware, our favorite gaming company, is represented by Howard Tomlinson, Chief Executive Officer, the first picture, and by John Phillips, VP Business Development - Allison's boss. (By the way, Allison, John says some very nice things about you!!!)
Howard says that many of Astraware's games will work on the new Windows Mobile Treo, but because of the screen size difference some additional work will be necessary to port others over. The menuing system will have to change, also.
Sammy will be happy about this - I met Mary Marchbanks, Director of Enterprise Sales and Andrea Freeman, Marketing/Public Relations, of Enfora. They were exhibiting their wi-fi sled. I must say that I was surprised when I saw it in person. I expected it to be bigger and bulkier. Here's a couple of shots of their presentation:
And here are Maureen O'Brien and Matthew Baker of Avvenu. This innovative application places your computer files at your Palm's disposal. Great program:
John Chaffee of Splashdata was there. He's the CEO, no less. John says that Splashblogger will soon work with Typepad, and from what he showed me it is definately the way for us Associate Writers to go.
Audible.com is there, but their computer is down and so I'll post a picture when the come back up.
Finally, Ryan Sutton of Handmark (on the left) says that their new GUI on Pocket Express is a real improvement on the old one. He showed it to me on a Treo 700 (all exhibitors were given a 700 to use in the booth) and it was impressive. I'm going to try it when I get back. Mike King (on the right) of MobiTV says they are adding new content all the time, so let's keep our eyes on this service.
All shots taken with my Treo 650. Further postings to come.
