From Andrew Davis. I saw posts today at TreoBit and TreoCentral about MobiTV being officially available for the Treo today. At only $9.99 a month for 20 channels, I decided to give it a try. I don't know that I'll really make much use of it, but for $9.99 a month and since I can cancel whenever I want, I figured I'd give it a try. And since I'm still trying to do everything from just my Treo, I followed their link to download the software directly from my Treo. The real killer for me will be if it'll work with GoodLink running and ChatterEmail checking email every 15min. I have CE setup to only check email when the device is not in use, but GL has a constant connection and is constantly sync'ing. This is, in fact, the very reason I don't use AvantGo. If I don't start GL & CE, AvantGo syncs wirelessly and works just fine, but with GL & CE running, it freezes up and freezes or resets my Treo. To AvantGo's defense, I only enabled the wireless sync'ing... I never tried offline sync'ing with my 650. But I digress...
So back to MobiTV... well I followed the link and downloaded the installer, then opened it and gave it my credentials. I can see the MobiTV Promo channel, but none others. I've tried everything, but I can't get any of the other channels to work. I've just emailed their support group. :(
So Friday and the weekend passed and I tried everything. It never showed me anything more than the MobiTV Promo channel. I tried multiple re-installations and resets. I even changed my password, etc. It just wouldn't work.
I ended up calling MobiTV this morning and got a resolution. Okay, I figured it out after calling MobiTV. I have a Treo650 that was provisioned through AT&T Business Wireless just after the Cingular/AT&T merger. Thus, even though my phone says I'm on Cingular's network, my SIM card is an AT&T one. According to MobiTV they are adding support into their system for AT&T Wireless SIMs and that it should be working sometime this week. The good news is that I don't have to re-download and install MobiTV. It'll just start working once MobiTV updates their network. The downside is I now have to contact Handmark and get credited back for the days I haven't been able to use the service. Oh well... at least a solution is emminent...
